54 mm spindle nut socket

Okay, this time I did a thorough search of the forums, and I can't seem to find out where I can buy or rent a 54 mm socket.

I have called AutoZone, Advance, Napa, PepBoys... none seem to have it. Any suggestions?

Somebody putting on some manual hubs soon?

I hear a Sears socket sized at 2 1/8 is the same size as 54 mm and should work.

I think Sears does carry one also.

I recently did my brakes, and a 2 1/8 works. NAPA carries them, but I had to get mine ordered.

Thanks for the info. Sears shows it online, hopefully they have it at the store, because my Mom won't loan me her IS 300 for long!

The Sears one is nice, makes for a handy compact hammer too 'cause it's beefy. You'll likely need a 3/4-1/2 drive adapter too...

Got mine today at Sears

Got a 2 1/8" and adapter today (thanks Shane, I'd have forgotten) Socket was around $20, adapter was $7. I'm going to repain my hub dials for the 3rd time. First try was with body shop paint through a sprayer (turned out like ˟˟˟˟˟ - paint must have had hardner in it or something - like trying to spray molasses), 2nd was with the yellow my tow hook is painted with (the wife talked me into it - poor coverage, weird buildup at the letters). 3rd time is a charm - got some Plasticoat touchup spray to match the body.

Are these needed in the new Tacomas? I have a 2002 and had a 1994 and have a 54mm socket from NWOR that I had to buy when I redid my hubs.

IF it is not needed in my Tacom I was gonna sell it.

I got a 54 mm socket last fall at my local autoparts store. They had lots of different ones for various 4X4 hubs including the one for the 2nd generation Runners. It was expensive and obviously has limited uses but was worth it to me. It is thin walled so it fits without rubbing. Someone suggested that the 2 1/8 sockets can sometimes be a bit tight. I don't recall the brand on mine and it is out in the cold garage so I am not going to look right now but if you have trouble finding one, post again and I will look and tell you what the brand name is.

My local NAPA has the OTC 54MM socket for toyota hubs for less than $15. And it is 1/2 inch drive. It has a newer number now (7612??) The one I have is 6612

I think the 95 (or so) Runners use a different socket (more expensive)

I got mine from the guy ( I think he is a dealer) who drives Snap On truck for 16.55 plus Va tax and went to Sears to get the 1/2 to 3/4 drive adapter for 6.99 and since I was at Sears I decided to grab a torque wrench that goes from 5-80 ft lbs for $76 dollars, they were on sale. I need these tools to install the manual locking hubs. Below is the picture.
