Something about this seems to defy my sense of logic. I mean pulling a 4,000 rig out of the snow with little more than a shovel to anchor you? I'm sure it can handle the stress. But can the soil, rock, and/or snow handle what your trying to do?

They seem to have been in a few magazines but that doesn't mean it really works heh.

So has anyone seen or actually used this before?

 

they've reviewed that a few times in each of the mags. Supposedly it works great, but to me it's one of those "I have to see it to believe it" things.

 

I beleive Bill Burke shows it on his "Getting Unstuck" DVD.

I have watched the whole DVD (highly recommended by the way) but I am not 100% certain if he covered it, but I think he did.

They really do work, but you can also use a spare tire and bury it in the sand at an angle with a rod going through the center of the wheel to anchor it better.

I'll have to check that DVD out, I'm sure it'll come in handy. We'll see if it works or not... eventually heh. I still gotta get a winch before I can put any of that to the test .

I just read that article on jumping on a moving article. That guy really knows his stuff.

It's good we have guys like him around to teach guys like me .

He don't mess around though heh.

I wana see him drive one of those FJ's. He might even be better than you :p.

 

I understand he taught the three FJ Trail teams everything they know before they started their tours around the US.

He sabotaged a few of the FJs, and made the trail team crew find out why they would not start.

 

Pull-Pals rule! But they are heavy and expensive. If you do the type of wheeling where they come in handy, they can be a blessing. I suppose if you hang in the sand and get stuck a lot, they might be worth the cash. For me, if I am wheeling in the sand or snow and get stuck, I bury the spare as a "deadman". It's more work, but A LOT cheaper! And, I am hauling the weight anyway.

It works well, but it depends how stable the terrain is. It will work on stuff like loose sand when it gets deep enough to get into the damp denser stuff deeper down.

 

I read that it works on the premise that instead of the anchor pulling the turf it's buried in up, the blade is angled so that load application causes it to dig deeper. Eventually it'll dig deep enough so that it can't move. The angle of the blade is the magic part, the rest is fairly 'agricultural'.

 

it makes me think it'll give way and become a rocket headed for your windsheild. but it probably works

I saw this one time, and the guy ended up leaving it there and coming back later with a shovel and pick and digging it out.
