Well have had the idea of 3/4 ton axles floating around in my head ever since I found a cheap d44/d60 combo with gears and lockers from a friend. My tow rig and jeep are both on 1 tons with 8 lugs, and it would be nice to be able to swap tires around if needed and toyota axles don't really like me. I have some 35's for the 4 runner and some cheap H2 wheels would be perfect to keep it not so wide. Anyone running full widths on a street rig?

I DD my Rig. '92 V6/ 5-speed ext cab pickup, SAS hi/crossover steering, Hydro assist, 3" lift, 4.88's lockright rear, aussi front, chevy 63's, dual 2.28/4.70 cases all on 35'' KM2's.
No complaints. goes 70MPH @ 3K rpms no death wobble, doesnt track at all, breaks fine. Sure beats the hell out of having IFS anyday. on or off the trail.

I hate my 3.0 most when i go to pull hills. i usually have to be in 3rd to get anywhere with a decent grade. 5.29's would be nice, but i wouldnt be doin 70 mph at 3K rpms. i live with it. in hopes of a 4.3 or OM617 swap once my v6 dies.

Just trying to get good info. The internet can give you crap. I just want good sites to check out. I was about to buy an engine for my truck then I read a review for the site and changed my mind. Especially after a buddy told me that people are taking junkyard engines and throwing paint on them and saying rebuilt.

Just finished my sas. 95 4runner, 3" springs, 5.5" shackles, 4.56 and 33" km2s. still need a front shaft. I drive mine every day and love it. Even with new springs and bad shackle angle. Hills suck as always and here in W.V. I'm always in a turn or on a hill. Just wish i could get the thing level.

I haven't even gone to pick up this 4runner yet But Still planning on doing the SAS as the front end is messed up, now 100% sure on that. Was really thinking about going with a D44/60 combo but I think now I'm just gonna do all yota stuff. It has 4.88's so I hope they like 36's/37's

Just a heads up, your 4.88's wont like 36's or 37's. 4.88's are recommended for 33's, and 5.29's are recommended for 35's and up. I have 4.88's on 35's with minor performance upgrades to my 3.slow. it hates anything with an uphill grade. and would suck offroad if i didnt have dual t-cases. Im just putting up with it till a motor swap, then 5.38's, 1-tons, on 40's. If your going that big on tire size in a Yota, youll need 5.29's.

I DD my SAS'd 88 pickup and it rides like a caddy compared to the way it was. Mainly because the 63" chevs flex a ton and the 3" TG front springs give me more travel than the IFS.
No problems doing 85 on the freeway, tracks straight, zips around town just fine. Kicks ass off road. I love it.
Only running a 22RE at the moment. Actually does fine with 5.29's and 35's. Collecting parts for a 3.4 swap now.

I know this thread is old but I have an 86 its pickup and someone offered to put a Dana 44 and a Ford 9inch and have 4.11 gears and do a 4 inch lift for 1600 is that a good combo and price or would that be stupid I figured it would be good to have a midsize truck on. 3/4ton Axels but I'm new so idk

Doing a solid axle swap with a mini axle requires a good bit of fabrication. not a ton, but enough to inconvenience anyone. Doing the swap with a full width D44 requires even more.
a wider front hangar, and offset shackles to match the wider perch width. Both driveshafts have to be custom made or aftermarket flanges swapped in. Brake lines have to be adapted, and how does he plan on doing the steering. Hi-steer/crossover arms and kit for a 44 can be pricy.
Which 44 does your guy want to swap in? GM or Ford?
Your t-case is passenger side drop, so you better hope its not the one that came in whatever half ton Ford he's getting his parts from. 9"s are 5 lug axles, and pricy to convert. So you will have to get new wheels, and your front lug pattern won't match the rear. In a nutshell, there's a TON of issues that need to be addressed before he starts the swap.
$1600 is a good price if all those issues are resolved. For lift parts, labor, fabrication, and aftermarket goodies, hell I wish I could've just had that guy do all my work! I personally find myself questioning the knowlege and abilities of this fab guy of yours.
Make sure you have a solid answer from this guy on how he plans to do:
-suspension
-steering
-brakes
-driveshafts
-gearing (make sure they match)
-lug patterns
