What are the correct dates for this? July 30 (only Holy Cross), 31, and August 1?
Do I need to reserve a spot?
Is it primitive camping or is there toilets?

I am planning on coming to setup camp on Friday and then wheel Saturday and Sunday. I want to do Mount Antero and spend some time looking for gemstones and semiprecious metals and then whatever other trail I can get in.
Friday July 30th - Most of us head up to Leadville to run Holy Cross. It's a tougher trail that sees a ton of usage during the weekends. We run it on a Friday to avoid the crowds. Most of us show up Thursday night at camp and drive up in the morning. We also have some people that meet us there Friday morning. Holy Cross isn't the only trip on that Friday. You are welcome to run anything you'd like to run that Friday.

Saturday July 31st - We usually have several large groups that head out and run BV Carnage, Iron Chest, Mt. Antero, Williams Pass (only open in the month of Aug), Wheeler Lake, Chinamans, etc......

Sunday Aug 1st - Same as Saturday, all the groups head out and run what they want.

You don't have to reserve a camping spot, we'll be camping in US forest service land. It's primitive camping, no toilets. We also ask people to bring some firewood if you can.

Hey Stick,
I ran Mt. Antero at the '08 CO4RJ and it is a easy trail, but has lots of great picture opps.
Here is a link to some of the pics I took.

Plus a 1 hour hike and you are on the top of a 14er.
Make it an early trail though, cause the storms roll in quick.
This tree was standing on our way up. Luckily, it fell away from the trail.

Off-Road.com has agreed to more coverage of the CO4RJ this year, too, but it might turn into a bit of a tourist piece. We'll see where the story leads.

How's Mt. Antero? Looks interesting. I'd like to find a way to the Devil's Punchbowl, too, if any of the other "Notso" crew wants to join me.

I am bringing a chainsaw this year. The last two years there have been signs posted that no permit is required to cut designated trees. There is a lot of beetle kill trees in the area that can and need be cut for wood. So, I figured that with me being there all week, I will just cut as much as I can the first day and drag it back to camp. Although, I may not be in the same spot this year right in the middle of camp. However, you won't be able to miss my rig this year regardless.

Still bring firewood if you have it though.

It gets plenty cold at night up there since its still around 9000ft in elevation at camp.

Lol. Yeah, we won't be camping so close to the fire pit this year either. Or clost to the guys with the diesel tow rigs that apparently have to be warmed up starting at 5 in the morning when they aren't leaving until 6 or 6:30. And with the dog who's named Gunnar, (which is also the name of our dog who will be in the tent with us) who likes to sniff around the outside of our tent while his owner keeps saying "Gunnar come here."

Nope. Won't be doing that this year.

There's plenty of space at this campsite to move up or down from the main campfire area. I think there's even a couple of spots around the corner if you want to get away from the noise of the at night.

Is it tent camping or can I bring a trailer? I understand there will be no hookups, just wondering if it is trailer accessible or if this is more of a tent space outing.

You're welcome to bring a trailer. I'd suggest heading up 305 rather than 315. 305 is an easier road to haul a trailer or car hauler up.

How big of a trailer do you have? I can get a 20' car hauler up there no problem.

I have a pop-up trailer. And, I have seen some pretty big Class C's come up as well. Jason got his 26ft Enclosed up there a couple years ago too without an issue. So, you shouldn't have an issue at all.

Ok, So I am a maybe on being there. I've been out of work for over a year now. so if I can afford it, I would love to come. As this would be my first time, Does the event cost? What do I need to bring? (besides normal camping gear and food) I am running basically stock. Only offroad upgrade I have is an OME 3" lift. Not locked, not geared. so I am guessing I would be running with the notso guys. On the other hand, I will be attempting Spring Creek Trail at the end of next month..... a little worried about that one, I am fairly new to wheeling and ran spring creek as a passenger last summer. but I am hooked!

Nice! There's no cost. We do sell raffle tickets for $1/each for the raffle items that have been listed in this thread. Just your camping gear, food, and some gas $$$.

You'll be completely fine with your setup. There will be plenty of other people that come that are stock or close to stock.

I've never been to Spring Creek but it looks to be a nice trail.

Hah, the Notso Runs have been so dubbed.

Hey Freak, nice tree. How'd that Volvo get out? A 240 station wagon on the trail is just like my dad in the 80s. He drove my mother's diesel Volvo all over the place in Colorado. With a four-speed! If there was a dirt road, the tank was on it.

I should be up there Thursday again. So do you think they'll open up Williams Pass on the last day of July? I have to drive home on Sunday. Anyone know who to ask? Otherwise, we have a vote for Mt. Antero and I'm going to rescind my vote for the Devil's Punchbowl because it's too far from Buena Vista (unless someone wants to hit it earlier in the week).

Justin,
The volvo got stuck in the right spot! Right next to us as we were airing down. We did some rock stacking, pushing and shoving for the poor European

Nah, no need for gas cans, unless you want to look cool. There's a gas station 15-20 minutes from the campsite.

Hey, we own shovels. Toyota guys dig their own holes, unless y'all dug it out yesterday...

Any insight on the Williams Pass question? Who can I ask about it being open on the last day of July instead of the first day of August? I thought I heard a club was in charge of access, but I can't find confirmation. Guess I need to do some data mining...

STICK

PS> If you want to see two Toyotas saving a Jeeper from a near-death experience, visit my Facebook page (Garage Hour) and scroll down to the YouTube'd video links. The best part is that all the other Jeep guys on the trail drove right by him - only Toyota guys would stop to help.
