Smile Buying a toy p/u need advice

Hey guys, I'm new here and have a few questions on a toy p/u I'm looking at. It is a 91 standard cab 22re mt with 120,000miles. The body is in excellent shape with NO rust and barely a ding or two, frame is good and interior is real nice also! I have been lookin for one for awile and finally found this. Only problem is the owner had it given to him about 2 yrs ago from his brother that moved and couldn't take it with him and he doesn't need so it sat for about a yr and then he took it to a shop to get a tune up and a muffler put on it. The work was done and he's buddy's with the shop owner and still didnt need the truck so it sat there for about another year, well I saw it sittin there for so long and called and asked abt it and went and checked it out and drove it. It starts and runs great just sittin there but when I went to drive I it feels like it has NO power and will barely pull itself up to 30-40mph. Didnt see any smoke out of exhaust of any color. I know it could be a million diff things but wanted to see if any of you had a suspicion of what the problem may be, fuel filter, bad gas from it sitting so long is my guess but what y'all think? Also I'm pickin it up for $1,800, sound like a steal or what?!

Offer 1500 , more than likely bad gas , hopefully the fuel lines aren't all gummed up as well

Did you open up the air filter and make sure something didn't nest in there? It could be bad oil as well from sitting too long or bad gas. Something that has a shelf life but personally my money might be on a nest in the intake or exhaust system. Dont forget to change out the spark plugs, fuel filter, check the timing, change all oils before really running it again. Use synthetic drivetrain fluids (I like lucas for the money) to really make that thing run good once your done.

No matter what a rust free toyota is worth a couple dollars and if it starts and runs then I cant see it being too complicated of a fix.

I agree on the 1500 price tag since it wont pull itself to highway speed. It might cost you the 300 bucks to get it fixed.

Yea I already offered him $1500 but his bottom is 1800, I was pretty much ready to pay anything he wanted under about 2800-3000 until I found out it needed lil work, so you really don't think it's a great deal? I've searched for these high and low and ppl are gettin 2000 for rotted out junk, I've seen em for 5000 in the condition that this one is in with 50-60,000 more miles! It's next to impossible to find one without rust that isn't out west or down south( I'm in Illinois by the way) I'm pretty sure whatever is wrong with it is simple

When you first went to look at it was the E-brake applied??

I bet anything the bell cranks are seized in the brackets!

After that much time for sure. The only question is are the stuck with the brake on or released??

Just where do You live??

These trucks have a regional market I think $1800.00 is not a great price but with the devaluation of the dollar not bad.

Then not seeing the vehicle in person it is hard to really say for sure.

So you spend $1800.00 plus another $1000.00 or so and you should have a pretty good truck.

Didnt seem to have a problem rolling but it was awile ago when I looked at it, it's still sittin there because the guy wanted the mechanic to try and figure out what's wrong with it so he could get a lil more $ out of it and he hasn't gotten around to it but he's thinking about just sellin it to me as is cuz it's been there so long. I'm right in between the quad cities and Chicago on I80 in Illinois.

for the sake of $300, if it's what you want, get it, pay the $1800. That's a good price from what you've explained and the mileage. Dicking around for a few hundred - especially if there are other people looking - might cost you a truck that has what you want. The 'cash in hand', whatever, anyone else that buys that truck is paying cash as well.

$1800 seems like a decent price to me considering the body is straight with no rust. Low mileage engine....probably just needs a tuning up and fresh gas from sitting.

I would pay a mechanic $100 or whatever to spend some time and goes over the truck to see what it could need. Have them do a compression check, cooling pressure check, and whatever other tests them could do. Then you'll have a better idea of what you're buying.

I paid $4700 for my '95 v6 5spd with 160K 4 years ago. I know that wasn't the best deal....
