yeah but looks are decieving You should see what that regiment did to the casing of my Watch!!!! I thought it was full Satinless, but as it turns out, 7 months of the ol Petrol wash, and the case turned into Brass!!!!

I'm not in OZ anymore unfortunately, although I do have quite a few connections in the rural areas of QLD that could yield something worthwhile... Personaly I'm looking for a 4.2L TD ( I have no idea what the engine codes for these trucks/most tyotas are) and then I'm looking for a way to fit the sucker into a Gen1 4Runner. Probably just gonna go Turbo Gas for the time being, but man do I dream of a TD in this thing some day.

I vote no. I am sold on my 2.7L 4cyl. It has adequate power even when fully loaded and gets 20-25 mpg. Diesels get rougly the same mileage, but you have to burn up half a tank trying to find a station.

2000 4runner

If it's for your 1st gen...A 2LII-T should drop right in. You could get a half-cut and have nearly everything you need. It won't have the power of a 4.2L TD since it's a 2.4L, but it's the one that was offered in the 2nd gens. It should even bolt up to your manual tranny. Go to toyotamadness.com for better info.

yeah see, I don't want a 2.4L diesel... I want the power... Diesel's are great in every way, but I really want the power of the 4.2... I've grown up driving 4.0L Jeeps, and frankly, if I go away from the 22re it's gonna be for something with alot more meat than the 2LII-t has to offer, and yes I belive that they do just drop in...

cheers

Dave

I would certainly buy a diesel, especially if it was turbo'd and/or hybrid. New diesel technology (pick up a copy of "Automotive Engineering" sometime and take a look!) and hyrbid technology should give us reliable compact trucks that get like 40-50 mpg with as much or more power than they have now!

If our car companies would focus on this awesome, capable technology and quit advertizing their honkin' huge SUV's (Newsweek stated that this big SUV market is GROWING and the hybrid market is barely even a noticeable portion of the vehicle market) to Motown and stupid yuppie scum obsessed with their "maximum capability imperative" we would basically all be able to attain that.

Also, I think that repair costs on diesels, which is a good NOT to get one, would go down if they occupied a greater part of the market.

I own a 93 F250 Turbo Diesel that has 160k miles on it. The only thing I have done is to replace the clutch and rear main seal. Still pulls great and hauls our camper around without a problem.

I would for sure take one. Have always wanted a small diesel (not a 7.3powerstroke, although a 7.3 powerstroke stuffed into an old ford bronco would be sweet )
But a 4runner that gets 25% better economy. I've read that hybrids get 25% better econony and diesel gets the same.
The reason being is that there is more "energy" in diesel, compared to gasoline. Along the same lines of BTU ratings (British Thermal Unit). I'm not sure of the specifics but that's what its about... Diesel contains more "energy".... just as gasoline has more "energy" than propane... and then alcohol (maybe)...

I heard something about Toyota coming in 2006 with a full size diesel truck to compete with american 1-ton diesels...

You just know a Toyota turbo diesel would be awesome! If Toyota were to make a TD tundra I'd be on it like flies on ÅÅÅÅ, 20% "bad credit" interest, high insurance and all! I might get flamed for this, but I would love to try to run a toyota diesel on WVO as well.

Toyota engineering, reliability, and quality, combined with the inherant simple design and lifespan on a well maintained diesel would be a dream come true for me.

Yes i would go diesel--prices would be step for a little while--but eventually they would come down--hopefully at about the 250K mark when things would need to be replaced--also love the torque for pulling--Diesel just dont seem stressed when towing--kinda like a mule

We used to have a diesel, it was from a 96 GMC and was turboed. Do new diesels spew black smoke durring WOT? Becuase this thing ran nice and clean except for durring WOT There was more black smoke than you could shake a stick at. Have they found a way around this now?

It's all in the tuning. The new ones don't until people buy aftermarket chips to make them faster. Then the smoke is right back.

I would get a diesel.
Anyone know if you are allowed to import a right handed wheel vehicle into the US?

If so, check out this beauty of a cuiser on ebay:
