1st GEN RULES THE RUNNERS!

I am from the Northwest and my 88 Runner top never leaked a drop even after many removals and installs

What was I thinking when I sold that Runner???

i second that. i have an 86 but i wish i had an 85 with the straight axel. ill do the sas though.

the first gen has got the tailgate which is great except when your #$%#ing rear window breaks and wont $#!#ing go down then you cant get the #$&#ing tailgate open. not that that has happened to me or anything. and the 1st gen has got the removable top.

my only complaint is the lack of power but that can always be upgraded.

Second Gen for me. Runner up (ha!) would be the 1st gen though.

I am a biased 3vze engine lover though.

I was looking at a 1st gen yesterday and I could not get over how the back shell looked like it just did not fit right! It looks like it was taken form another truck just to save money. I think it is the strange looking side windows that mess it all up. I also don't like the square wheel wells. Don't get me wrong I am not a 1st gen hatter! just my thoughts on the 1st gen.

I like the 2nd gen, Duh I bought one. But all years have good points and bad points, accept maybe the 4th gen! what is that thing??? I call it the new 4Bummer. lol

Peace! 4runners rule!

I really don't like the style of the 1st gens.

The third gens look too plastic to me. I love being all metal even if it does cost more when you break it. The bumpers on the third gens stick out too far and it makes it look like it has an underbite. Don't like those fender flares or that stupid cladding. I think the 3 gens are the worst looking ones. The only thing better about them than the 2nd gens is the rear hatch. It looks nicer but when you need to haul some lumber, the tailgate on the second gens are so much better.

On the 2nd gens, what about those vent windows?? Those are great. And a very sleek style on the side. All metal, no plastic! God I hate plastic. The 2nd gens are by far the best!

The 4th gens are okay but I want to see how they look in 10 years before I determine their rank.

1st All the way...

I had a 1985 runner when I was in high school (1988) and wish I still had it. I now have a 1986, I just wish it had the solid axel instead of IFS. But as soon as I can sell it I will be looking for a 2nd gen. Runner is in Arkansas if anyone is looking for one.
