What is your favorite 4runner body style?

After the recent debate over the 4th gen body style, I would like to see some stats!

When the second gens first came out I was extremely disappointed that they didn't have a removeable top, I always wanted a first gen for that reason. Of course I've now owned a 2nd gen and a third gen....

I like them all, the 4th gen has grown on me quite a bit, but the removeable top makes 1st gen king in my book.

My pref is 3rd gens for the power and optional locking diff till '01. My verdict on the 4th gens is still reserved since I've yet to drive one but no optional manual tranny anymore is a low spot.

3RD Gen!!!

Wait a minute.... I own a 2nd gen.... Crap, I can already feel my runner looking away from me Ahh well, as much as I wanted a 3rd gen, it was just waaayyy too much out of my price range. That being said, when I first saw anykind of runner (2nd gen) I just fell in love, so I had to have it. Sooner or later though I will be the owner of a 3rd gen, and a 2nd and hopefully a 1st too!! uhhuh, yeah I know.... but we should all have dreams right?
Cheers, Lee Hathaway

Has to be the 1st gen. I own a 3rd, but really only because I needed something fairly new with low miles for my daily driver. If Toyota had stayed with the origional formula and was currently offering a bare-bones-all-about-utility-hose-out-interior 4Runner these days at around $16-$20K people would be lined up around the block for them! I just cann't get too worked up about the 4th gen. They made it physically bigger, with a V-8, and nicer inside, but if I wanted that, wouldn't I just go get a Sequoia? It seems to me the price is even fairly similar. Somepeople seem to think that bigger and plusher is better......but not everyone wants to haul all that around, let alone pay for leather seats, GPS nav system, etc., etc...

But the non-removable top made for a much more modern apperance and a quiet interior... The removeable top would be sweet if you lived in a warm dry place. Personally I love the lines of the 2nd gen.

The 2nd gens are awesome, I miss some things about my old 90. The 3rd gens are kind of a refined version of the second gen, pretty similar to my eye. Practical or not I wish the top of mine came off. First 4runner I ever drove was a first gen, sans top, in lakewood CO, around 90 or 91. That's what originally planted the seed, maybe one of these days I'll have a few $$ and will talk farenheit451 out of his.

1st gen, they were more like trucks back then, actually they were trucks that had a semi permanent canopy, not carish like on the newer gens

I like 'em all!!

I dont like the 2nd gen's just because of the 3.0 engines...

But, I think my order would be this:

1) 1st Gen
2) 3rd Gen
3) 4th Gen
4) 2nd Gen
