What tires ya running?

I just bought a 99 4runner with p265/70r16 Michelin XLT m/s2's on it.
Good tire for my DD but I don't quite trust em for deep fishing trips. Was just wondering who's running what? I should mention I have stock ride height.

I'm running Goodyear wrangler Duratracs in the 265/75R16 variety. I can't say enough good about this tire. They've handled everything. Pretty good in deep snow, good traction on ice, great in mud and sand. I've had them aired down as low as 10 psi on trails, and the truck usually won't spin them. Only downside I can point out is they are pretty aggressive for someone only doin the occasional off road excursion. I've got 20k on mine, and their still above 60% tread. They're not as quiet on the street as they used to be, but oh we'll. that's what the stereos for.

What you have are some of the longest lasting tires I've ever seen. My dad had them on his 96 landcruiser when he bought it. No telling how old they are but they lasted almost ten years.

Also an running the duratracs, love em. And not expensive. Great choice if you want a daily driver that does good in rain but hooks up awesome in dirt and pulls good in the mud. 2ply side wall but no punctures yet. About to buy my second set

I run 32"x11.5" Sport King A/Ts, also a 2 ply sidewall. They have about 14,000 miles on them and still have at least 75% tread left.

Also considering Duratrac's

Also considering the Duratrac's for my DD/weekend trailhead shuttle, because they're more aggressive than BFG AT, yet not as knobby as M/T's. Not very concerned about road noise now because I live 7 minutes from the office

Any ideas why BFG AT's while very popular got poor survey scores on www.tirerack.com?

Also heard good things about treadwright Guard Dogs but I only want 235/75R15 (close to stock 225/75R15).

Bob, you're talking about the Michelins, Duratracs or Kellys? ^^

I used to run Sport King mud terrains on a Ram Charger I had years ago !

Where can you get those now ? I looked online and could not find anything - ?

Thanks !

I have the 265/75R16 Treadwright Guard Dogs. They're M/T, so they're pretty loud and vague on the road. They haven't failed me on the trail, on the rocks, or in the mud though. And the price is hard to beat. I think I may move up to 285/75R16s of the same tire in the future.

If you're mostly on the road, Treadwright has a BFG A/T copy called Warden. https://www.treadwright.com/p-60-265...den-a-t-d.aspx

I bought them from tirebuyer.com about a year and a half ago. Last time I looked, they didn't have them listed on their website, so I'm not sure where you can get them now. They're an okay road tire. I haven't had them offroad much. They're great for a poor college kid, like me.

But, I'm talking about the Sport King A/Ts. I think you mean the Mud King X/Ts. I don't remember seeing them on tirebuyer.com at all. The company they're manufactured by is called Medalist.

After a quick Google search, it looks like Summit Racing Equipment is still listing them, but it says they're not available. I'd give them a call or an email to see if they might be getting them back in at some point.

Sorry I couldn't be much more help.

BTW, I'm at about 18,000 miles on these tires and I have about 50% tread left.

I've LT31s Michelin on my 1990 4Runner Auto 3.0 and LT235s on my 1991 5Sp. 4x4 truck 22RE. I've swapped them back and forth and do not like the performance on blacktop of the bigger tires here in Az. I've been everywhere with the 235s and feel they are what belong. My 1980 4x4 5sp. truck with aggressive 31s does excellent hardcore stuff but stays in low range most of the time and doesn't have to push them down the highway. I live on a ranch road that is not maintained, so it can be miserable at times and always rough..

BFG KM2s. 33x10.50-15. 70K miles and over half tread left. Not loud, just a whir as you're rolling down the highway. Stereo and wind noise are much louder. But you can carry on a normal conversation with just tires rollin'...

I run 31x10.5r15s Michelin LTX AT2's on my rig. They're much more aggressive than the M/S tires and also get better ratings in every category on tirerack too than the MS tires, except treadwear. I recently replaced a 2001 set of the original A/Ts with the current generation and am very happy with them. You can read more of my thoughts and all my research here (basically price plus performance plus treadwear mileage warranty plus size availability sealed the deal -- most tire manufacturers except Michelin/BFG don't have treadwear warranties on the LT High Flotation tires): https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f177...tx-at2-209979/

Also, BFG's are actually owned by Michelin w/ BFG being their B-level brand and Michelin's being their platinum. The BFG all terrain KOs have firmer sidewalls than Michelin A/Ts and tread is more suited to exclusive off road, but if your time is split between on and off and you don't need a mud tire, I'd lean towards the A/Ts...

And both Michelin and BFGs are Made in USA, if that's important to you. And Costco is running $70 off 4 BFGs right now -- post link above covers Costco's pricing and how I don't think you can beat it...

But if looking for/needing Mud Tires, that's entirely a separate category, so I'll defer to other experts there.

2slick pro-comp m/t's and 2 dry rotted regal a/t's aka roll around lol but the procomps where a nice tire lasted a good while and pull decent in mud they where daily driven for 6 or 7 years

When I put it back on the road ill try to get some ground hawgs or boggers depending on how much I end up driving it

BFG AT 12.50 x 33 on my son's '90 pickup. Love these tires. This is my 8th or 9th set over the years.
