alright wireing up a relay and switch and stuff isnt to hard i just did it lastnight for some led halo's in my headlights. but my only question is. if my truck and switch are on will the seats keep continuing to get hot until they burn themselves up? or once they reach temp shut the heating coil off?

 

^^^ depends, where the control is for the heated seats....get the wire schematic for the vehicle the seats came out of.

 

I have, eerrm, "obtained" a set of LED cabover lights for a particular model domestic truck from where I work. (I work in the test lab of a automotive lighting facility and these came in as cosmetic scrap) I will post up a pic later of the lights, as this will be a cheap mod (almost free) just want an opinion of cabover lights on our trucks/4Runners.

 

the bigger the truck, the better they look. in my opinion, i like small amber cabover lights that aren't too visible when off. though, i'm more of a light bar fan

 

It's ok. I'm truck brand promiscuous, I can forgive...I also like them on bigger trucks, but don't think they'd look bad on a Yota. Worst case scenario, get some battery clamps and you can use them as under hood lighting-permanent or moblie.

I'd also use them for night fishing, but wrong board for that discussion.

 

sigle cab 86 pickup, removed ignition an put 2 switchs on the left side of the steering wheel for power an aux an a push button on the right side to start it, an 100 bux a can painted the exterior of the yota in hurculiner, never rust never scratch. custom push bar up witch elliminated the front pumper so took some old trailer lights an mounted em under my head lights for turn signals

 

took diamond plate off the sides of an old freezer an ripd my door panels off witch are like freakin cardboard an used em as timplates an made some sweet diamond plate door panels

 

sun cracked my dash during my build so took some bond an some spray paint an filled it the cracks

 

did not have knobs for the air condition controls in my 86 pick up so i went out back shot off the 40 cal a few times, suffed the shells with bondo an stuck em on the pegs now iv got some sweet chrome 40 cal shell knobs

 

Chrome? Where is the brass.

Picked up this little guy for $10




The face can be pryed off gently and reapplied elsewhere.


I trimmed about 3/16'' off each side to reduce the width of the face plate.

Removing the chip from its case allows it to be mounted easier in the space where I needed it.



As you can see with just a little bit of double sided sticky foam and a peice of sheet metal and a couple rivets, this can be mounted fairly easy to the back of something. You will want to make sure that the screen is sealed off from dust. Cause once its in there it aint coming out.
Forgot to mention you obviously have to cut a square out of the plastic were your installing it.




I wired mine into the accessory circuit so that its on with key on, but it can easily be wired to a switch aswell.

This is such an easy and cheap mod that I went ahead and did it to my camping trailer.


And while I was in there I made a plexi glass water tank gauge with led lighting,, well why not?

Tank is almost emtpy as you can see

Just curious... not that it's needed... But you obviously have a Generator in the camper, right? Could you do a digital fuel gauge for that, too? Or is it not necessary anyway? Just curious.

No gen, its just for the batteries and solar panels.

 

Got a 1st Gen roll bar or craigs for $20. I was putting it in myself so I cut it in half and used a pipe clamp where i cut it once i got it in. since it will only really be to hold a jerry can and hi-lift. On a side note the guy i got it from had a sick 1st gen bobbed 14" and dove tailed. Im trying to find the pictures

 

haveing a gas can in an enclosed space? bad idea, no smoking im guessing?

 

Ya thats a typically a no no... Kind of why nobody does that.
All gas cans leak some fumes.
Nice job on the retro, but id find a new home for that vapor box.

Unless your always running without doors,,, then it would be better.

 

I run the tube doors almost all summer long. It was kinda a last minute thing I was going camping and in the time I had, its all i could come up with. The only time its had gas in it was camping and when we got to the spot it was on the ground near the tent.
