My question exactly...I was thinking that perhaps there is still some crap in there making things run rougher and decrease the mileage and perhaps more seafoam would help clear things up...any input on this theory? Or should one can in the tank and one can (3 treatements in thirds) run through the pcv do the job to max efficiency?

I've done ti several times - I didn't get ANY smoke after I did it last time, so I know it was nice and clean.

wow, a lot to read on this thread.

well, i'm convinced to try the seafoam. i just had a 60K tune-up yesterday, and it would have been nice to do the seafoam prior to that, but oh well. at least i fould about it later than never. so i'll try it tomorrow. since i just had the oil changed i'll do the intake and gas tank treatments, but not oil for now.

it is pretty much assumed i'll have to pull the O2 sensors/spark plugs and clean/replace them? maybe within a week after seafoaming? also, is there a write-up on this? seems easy, but well i'm not even exactly sure where they are. :pat:

okay, well i did it.

in my mad quest to restore the gas mileage i've lost in the past couple months, i hope the seafoam helps out so far, it seems a little better, but not to where it should be . i should get 65-70 on the odometer at the quarter tank used mark, but it looks like i'm gonna get 55-60 on this tank, with pretty normal driving, and that's up from 50.

i'm still gonna replace the spark plugs and fuel filter, that's all i can think of remaning that wil help. i wonder tho...people say the seafoam exhaust can dirty up the o2 sensors, but is there a point where they're messed up enough to cause a drop in milage, but not yet signal a CEL, or is it if they're bad, i'd definitely see a light?

I think this came up on the old thread, but did you check your plugs and O2 sensor after noticing the drop-off?

If there was a lot of gunk in the engine, then it could have fouled the plugs and/or O2 sensor.

I did the foam and had the same drop in mileage - down to approx 13 mpg. I pulled my plugs and they were extremely dirty. Cleaned them and got better, but still not to pre-seafoam, mileage. I am going to pull my O2 sensor tonight and see if it helps. I read another post where Bachem? had the same drop in mileage as me. If you read this, did you figure out what was causing your drop in mileage? Was it just the S/C vacuum hose??

Bummer on the new plugs getting a short life. You may be able to get away with cleaning them - it's worth a shot before buying a new set.

Using any of these cleaner products can cause problems like this. The cleaner is certainly doing it's job, but if the engine was really gunked, that gunk's gotta go somewhere.

Now, the other side of this is that if the engine _was_ that gunked up, then it's doubtful that one "application" of Seafoam (i.e., down the PCV hose, let it sit for a couple of hours, then watch the blue smoke) probably didn't loosen everything up. That said, you'll want to do it again before changing out the plugs and O2 sensor.

and if I actually DID THEM in that order... eeek!

My CD's are alphabetical by group, and by date within the same group. I can be a bit anal at times.

I'm still in the process of doing my Seafoam treatments - I've run probably about 3 cans and I'm still getting smoke out of my exhaust.
I too have noticed a drop in mileage but I figured that it was all the gunk blowing out - 18 years of carbon buildup is probably going to take a few more cans.

Doing the mods in a-b-c- order would have been a little much My CD's were alphabetized too, at one point in time...but my wife took care of that for me

I apologize for this interuption, we now return you to the regularly scheduled topic...

I spray the whole can in the intake plenum.....seems to smooth out the idle. One of my tricks I use just before taking it in for emissions

this is how i just seafoamed mine. i did 3 1/3 of the can applications. but some spilt between the funnel and hose, so i didnt use the WHOLE can but close to 90-95% by the 3rd applaction the motor was starting to struggle and smoke was filling my neighborhood, enough to make neighbors come outside to see what was going on. this was the first time i have done it, and i have had the truck for 21K miles, with 170K on the odo. i will see how it performs. i am going to fill it up and throw another can in the gas tank. hopefully this will increase MPG a lil. 13/15 city/highway sucks.
