Hello All
K&N or OEM Filters
Mobil1 full synthetic 10W30 on my new motors
Castrol GTX 10W40 on my highmilage no synthetic motors (my truck).
I do oil changes at 3500 miles on my daily drivers and after every race weekend on the other cars.

Here is a oil FAQ from another site that I visit for my AE92
http://www.unofficialbmw.com/all/misc/all_oilfaq.html
The test was preformed by Amsoil so it my be slightly biased but, right at the top on every test is Mobil1 and Castrol GTX.

Pure One oil filters are trash. No strength members to help keep there oil filters from colapsing (sp?) Wish I could find the link of where another forum user took several types of oil filter and cut them in half to find out what was realy the difference between oil filters. Sorry!!

OEM or K&N all the way!!
My two cent.
C-YA!!

Read the manual.5000 miles or 6months what ever comes first.Thats with dino oil.I use mobile one and mobile one oil filter.Change twice a year.I sent a sample in to have it check where the company I work for sends aircraft turbine oil in to be checked.Oil is fine, motor is fine.If you put more miles than I do on it.Then change it more often.I used to change it every 3000 miles.I felt stupid throwing away synthetic oil with that little miles on it.If you abuse it change it more often.I tow a boat every now and then and a small trailer with my 4 wheeler. There is a good oilfilter study done on the net.Type in oil filter study. You will learn alot.Good Day

I use AC Delco since I work for GM anyways or Fram. I don't want to hear anyone blast me about Fram. It's my vehicle, I can repair it if it breaks down so don't start. Everyone has their own preferences, I have mine.

why does this thread keep popping up as there is a new post? Not every time, just sometimes.

You guys ever heard of Royal Purple? A buddy of mine uses it in his pickup, and he changes it every 10k, and it comes out looking better than some 5k oil, he tells me.

This is the original web site that is copied from. Great info and provides a good reference on who makes what filter.

Co' mon people oil changes are cheap insurance, Can you imagine the cost and down time of a siezed bearing on these yota trucks we are paying big $$$ for. and whats the deal with this Mobil 1 oil. I also use synthetic oil but usally its Castrol or Pennzoil along with a Fram filter. And it will remain every 3000 miles for me, that oil comes out
as clean as I put it In, and you can eat out of my exhaust pipe.

I do have a question though, I run 10w-30 yr round, my opinion is 5w-30 looks like it will break down must faster, I used it in the wife's first Saturn and that car even with changing the oil every 3k was blowing a qt. of oil a month at 80k and a valve seized
at 90k . changing that oil after 3k it was black. I now use 10 w -30 in all my cars now (including the wifes New Saturn) and it seems to work well. Why do the mfg's recommend 5w-30 in all these newer cars Is it a gas mileage thing.???

Toyota OEM Filter and Royal Purple 5W30 here....every 5k...

...I remember back in 2000, when my parents bought their Tundra, the sales manager gave them 2 years worth of free oil changes to keep us int he deal because the sales guy kept trying to screw us over, with statements like "You give me $5k, and the rest to the guy int he back."
Well, we were thinking. What the heck, we're not paying for it. We were at the dealer every 1k for an oil change. We only did that 3 times, because we traded the truck in for hte 4Runner...

Wow!! I am shocked!
I've been, I now realize, foolishly, slavishly using the Radioactive Orange Can of DEATH on both my vehicles since '89. This will cease as soon as I can get to the store to get a replacement! From what I could see on that link, the PureOne is the filter for me. What really got to me was the e-mail he got from the production line engineer who works at Fram, and he says they're trash! He won't use them, and I wager he get's them for free! Holy cats! I guess I got a super engine in my p/u, as I have 286,000+ miles on it so far with no trouble, and nice clean oil coming out when I do my changes at 3k. I wonder, though, if my foolish use of the PH8A on my 4Runner is a contributing cause to it's now just starting life on it's 3rd head. I hate to think so, but I now have this really sick, sinking feeling...at least I don't have very much time on this new head with it's POS filter, and I'll change it asap!

All I can say is THANK YOU for posting that link. You may have saved me from a fourth head, or worse...

redline synthetic or castrol full synthetic when the wallet can't afford redline...NAPA gold or K&N(whichever is cheaper at the time)

I use valvoline Maxlife oil (non-syn) and change it and my filter every 3000 miles. I use PureOne oil filters as well. If I had a newer 4runner with less miles, I would definatley change over to Mobile one synthetic. My dad runs that stuff in his cars and he changes the oil every 6000 miles has about 250,000 on his buick 3.8. Runs as good as new, and mechanics are always surprised at how clean his engine is.

Well, have fun all.
Daniel

There was a thread somewhere about oil filters and there was mention about the toyota oem filters having something that allows for quick oil circulation during startups. Can this be found on the oem filter only?
Also, what's the part number of the oem oil filter?

Thanks!
