I just a bought a '91 Runner from a guy with 305k on the odometer for $2500.
The door jamb sticker says I should be using a 225/75 tire, and there are 31s on it, so the mileage is a little off, pretty close to 300k (285k?) though.
Guy I bought it from said it was the original engine. I know the head gasket recall was performed on this vehicle. The sticker in my engine says the timing belt was last changed at 274k. She purrs like a kitten.
I consistently drive this thing at 65mph. I live at 6800 feet and she runs well. If this thing lasts me through the end of winter I will be happy.
Well, I guess I'll add to this really old thread. My 95 4Runner only has 163k miles and it runs pretty good for a 3.0. I did the head gaskets and timing belt last winter. It doesn't leak or burn any oil yet and I'll be happy if it gets me to 200k.
I have 1998 toyota 4runner that I bought with 12 miles on it. It now has 678,000 miles on it. Same timing chain, same motor, and same transmission. Only changed out the drive shaft u joint 3 times. Changed out the rear wheel bearing 2 times. Will post pictures shortly... Re filled the freon for air conditioning @ 600,000 miles. Changed out the fuel pump @ 500,000...
Still going strong as my work car.....Takes 10w 30 motor oil. It does leak oil and transmission fluid but I just fill it up when I service it...
I wonder does toyota give out a reward for 1 million??
I am trying to decide whether to buy a 2006 4x4 4 runner which has a 4 in lift, a roof rack and is the limited edition with 165k miles on it for $10,700 or to buy a stock 2005 4x4 4 runner with 135k miles for 10,700 as well. What is better? Does the difference in 30k miles make that much of a difference? Both vehicles have been consistently been maintained and serviced. Please let me know.
1999 4Runner Limited 4x4 249,000 miles and still runs, drives and looks new! besides general maintenance, I have replaced the the Alternator and evaporator and valve cover gaskets. All else is original.
There is a thread around somewhere dealing with the milage bragging rights.
My 92 3.0 has 309000 original miles. Just did a full fluid change and inspection and everything looks great in the trans, tcase and diffs. The motor purrs like a kitten. I drove it last summer through CA, NV, NM, AZ, OR, WA, and ID. Several hundred miles of those were offroad. I have no worries doing long distances or going in the back country all by myself. I'm confident she'll make it back every time.
I'm thinking on a diesel swap once she goes over 400k.
Just hit 378,500 miles on my 1988 SR5 3.0 v6. of course my head gasket just blew. Should have been paying closer attention. I noticed some smoke when cold last winter and just figured it was crappy gas.
I've been struggling the last 2 weeks trying to decide what to do. Head gaskets are beyond my ability and out of my price range.
May donate to a children's charity but they will most likely part her out and that does not sit well with me. Everything else is in great condition. Anyone want a solid base for a project? (in the Seattle area)
