Wheel bearings

How hard is it to change/service wheel bearings on a 94 toy 4x4 that has manual hubs? I have a littlle noise coming from that area and I know ists not breaks because I just took a look at them! So this is my guess. Anyother ideas

Pretty easy. You need the big 54mm (2-1/8") socket.

you can get by in a pinch without the 54mm by hammering a chisel on the corners of the nut to loosen it. pretty easy if your mechanically inclined and dont mind packing wheel bearings.

And then what, you "hammer" 'em back together to get the preload correct ?? !!)(*$)#.
That's pure booty fab.

Just buy the socket. You need it anyway.

NOT the correct way to do it but yea that works too.......the nuts are pretty cheap to replace

I have just seen a few trucks where previous owners had chiseled the nuts until they were barely able to remove them. The socket makes it much easier to get the correct pre-load but it CAN be done without

Yes, buy the damn socket and do it RIGHT! Hard to set the right torque with a hammer.
