Can anyone tell me what this tube is for? Its the one that comes right off the top of the radiator. Here is a pic. (and i'm not talking about the overflow tube.)

 

That's an overflow tube that should run to a resevior.

 

Well it would be nice to know what engine its on...is that a 22r-te?

 

i think it might be a 22rte since the distributor is small and the set up looks different than a normal 22re

The turbocharger is water cooled. That's the coolant return line for the turbo. Not a lot of turbo truck around, most people probably have never seen that line

that is the coolant FEED for the ct-20 turbo... Trust me! In the attached pic, you'll see where I had removed the outlet on the radiator and had the hole covered (with a nickel). I did so because my t3/t4 isn't water cooled.

Yes indeed that is the coolant line to the Turbo.

I can`t see how you couldn`t see that just by looking.

If it was the feed, how would coolant ever travel through it? It sits at the top of the rad where there's little/no coolant, and nothing pushing the coolant through. The feed comes from the water pump.

 

So what do I do with the line from the turbo that goes to the radiator if the new radiator doesn't have a port for it at the top. Can I make a port or maybe run it to the overflow tank instead since its a return and not a supply?

In my case with a new radiator I just installed a new nipple in the same spot.

Don't put it into the overflow. If you do that, then it'll pump all of your coolant into the overflow, and spill out. Overflow only fills up when pressure builds in your radiator, and pushes the rad cap up, and into the overflow.

Tee it into something on the low-pressure side of the water pump, like the return from the heater core, or the upper rad hose. You COULD tap into the lower rad hose, or lower part of the radiator, but you won't give that coolant from the turbo a chance to be cooled.

 

you could probably cut that nipple off and take it to a radiator shop and im sure they could cut a hole and braze it in there pretty cheap!
