Stock Torsion bar setting

I just bought a new 4runner (86) which has the torsion bars cranked way up. I want to return the truck to stock ride height.

I'm assuming I can just un-crank the t-bars, right? How can you tell when you've reached stock ride height?

Thanks

Do I need to jack the vehicle up and remove the wheels to unload the t-bars if I am simply lowering the vehicle, effecitively un-cranking them? Can I do this with the truck on the ground?

Measure the edge of your fender to the edge of your rim. stock should be 15" from rim to fender.

Yup do this on flat ground, adjust, bounce it up and down a couple of times, remeasure, go around block, remeasure again.

Adjust counter clock wise, that will raise the upper arm, in affect lowering vehicle.

not that mine is set right (front end has been rebuilt by P.O. after crash), but on my 87 pickup I have 13 1/2 " from a 15" rim to fender.

that 15" he shows there looks like it's on an 89-95 pickup.

you do have to jack it up. use a floor jack and jack the whole front end, then you can start uncranking the bars.

Yes, jack it up. You may want a spare set of adjuster nuts & bolts. Depending on where you live especially (rust) they may be almost impossible to turn. I live in AZ and have pretty much no rust on my 4runner and they are still seized solid. I am counting on having to replace them if I need to adjust/snap them.
