Hey my 1994 pick up will not start and im pretty sure that its the solenoid. I want to change it myself and I am wondering if there is any thing I should know or is it as simple as it looks?

Yeah make sure it's not the battery or even just corrosion on the battery terminals.

when you say solenoid you mean starter solenoid...correct..?

4crawler makes starter solenoid contact (likely to be the problem) that you can easily change out and keep your Aisin unit...
The ones from Vatozone arent to be trusted..

If it was the solenoid you would hear a click.

I would check ALL the connections, take off the loose corrosion, and put some dielectric grease on them.

New batteries aren't always charged. Try charging it. Why did you get a new one?

Yes..And when I say not to be trusted i dont mean that in a horrible way..Many people have a firm beliefe in the Aisin electrical products, and they can easily be refurbished from home...

Autozone-duralast=junk. Worked there for a few years, the quality is horrible on electrical. Id double check to make sure that you have 12 volts to the small wire that plugs into the starter when the key is turned to start. If you have 12 volts, than it sounds like a bad solenoid. If you hit 12 volts to the same connection on the starter, if the solenoid is good, it will click and the starter motor is shot. Just make sure its in neutral, if its in gear it will move!

4 crawler is the guy who sells the contacts in the solenoid that go bad alot. You can also just get a reman starter from a parts store(napa has decent starters)

I like to replace the whole starter, that way the solenoid and the motor are both warranteed and where I live the starter being replaced is so corroded that its useless. If your case is in nice shape and your on a budget, get the contact set and replace those, or if 125 bucks seems ok, just pick up a re man starter from napa or someone who is a local parts store. The solenoid itself is almost as much as a reman starter.

Here is a quick test you can do to see if the solenoid is the problem or not:

and easy enough to fix the solenoid if that is the problem:

Well I feel stupid. It was a bad connection with the batter. I tightened the nut maybe a quarter turn and thats all it took. Thanks for all of the help.
