Ok so Ive looked on a couple other sites looking for an answer and still haven't gotten anything difinative. I have and 86 4runner and am planning a sas. I dont have a lot of money to do this with. I also have a complete 81 pickup minus the motor. Im just curious if I can do the sas with Skys sas bracket kit and not have to use a high steer conversion. Im not planning a big lift only 3 or 4 inches. Just enough to clear my 33s (yes 33x10.50s fit on a stock 4runner. they just rub). Does anyone know for sure? Im about ready to just try it and hope it works.

 

Not possible, your IFS box has rotates on the wrong axis. It would be more work than it's worth to save the money. Look for someone selling a hi-steer kit used. That's what i did. I actually got them used, but new. Someone scrapped a project before it ever got off the ground.

 

If you don't have a lot of money to do an SAS right now, then maybe you should save up and do it later. I already have about $400 into just the axle so far and am still far from done, don't spend all that time doing the swap just to have to pull stuff back off to fix the corners you cut.

You'll need to adapt the push-pull steering to the IFS frame, and since nobody makes kits for that, you'll need to fab. brackets, etc. Plus set up the torque rod upper mount. Probably looking at about the same amount of work as the SAS and then if you do go to crossover steering, you'll need to do about that much more work to swap the steering over.

I initially put on the original AllPro crossover steering kit on my '85, had a stock drv. side arm (J-end cut off) and a fabricated double steering arm on the passenger side and a modified pitman arm set up for heim joints:
