Rover guy w/question...

So I'm thinking about swapping a Toy 6cyl third in Rover housing with a kit. I got a Toy Factory,(I think), 4.88 third for the back. Is it true that I'm screwed as far as swapping a diff R&P in this 3rd? I want something closer to 4.11. Is there a way I can check to see if this is a true factory 4.88 3rd? If it is, can I put a Detroit in this 3rd housing and go with any R&P? I'm a little confused so if anybody has an idea I'd appreciate it!

Thanks!

Does it have a huge abs plug on the top, and are the gears thin?

If so, its stock 4.88. You cannot regear this diff, you can add a locker. Sell the 4.88's and get some 4.10's they are easily found. Very common, probably most common toy ratio.

What you putting this in? I used to be a rover guy.

It's going in a Disco 1. I'm going to use the Rovertracks Kit.

Are factory 4.88 gears worth much?

It's good to know I can put a Detroit in it as that was the plan anyway. I thought maybe the 3rd housing wouldn't take a Detroit.

I am pretty sure it will take a detroit, its just the gears that are different.

4.88 gears out of the carrier I wouldn't think are worth much at all, but the whole third is worth more than a 4.10 third.

[threadjack] I think it funny that LR guys say their rigs are the best offroad vehicles on the planet, and the number one mod is to swap in a Toyota drivetrain [/threadjack]

Funny, been a Rover Nut for many years and have yet to run into another one that thinks that.
