R150F manual transmission drain and fill plugs

I tried searching for this in the forum and online, but mostly was lead to old posts with dead reference image links.

I'm looking to change out the transmission oil in my '95 3VZE 4wd Pickup with what I believe to be the original R150F transmission.

I'm going through a copy of the Haynes manual and it looks like the image of the "under side view" did not include #7 (MT oil check/fill plug) and #8 (MT drain plug) in the reference picture:

This example does not look like the underside of my transmission. Mine is lacking an obvious drain plug like the one depicted:

This is what the bottom of my transmission looks like. There is no obvious drain plug on the bottom side:

Driver side – Is this the filler plug?:

Passenger side – Is the one circled in yellow the drain plug? What is the one circled in blue (hex)?:

Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you.

I'm pretty sure that in the above pictures, the bolt looking thing circled in light blue is the fill plug, and the one circled in yellow is the drain plug.
On the more silvery looking thing, the Transfer Case, that hex head bolt is it's plug to remove the reverse restrict pin. The tcase fills from the transmission..
Almost certain.

Yes:
- Light blue circle on the driver's side is the fill (make sure you get the this one removed first to make sure you can fill it back up)
- Yellow circle on the passenger side is the drain (sits at the lowest point of transmission)
- Still not 100% certain what the darker blue circle is though.

Important – Make sure you use a 6-point socket for these. My buddy took a 12-point to his 92 pickup and ended up stripping the fill plug. I made sure not to make that mistake.

Transfer case has its own set of fill/drain plugs that point to the rear of the truck. These ones are pretty obvious which is the fill (sits up higher) and which is the drain (sits lower)

hey guys! I have this transmission and Im trying to figure out how to check the trans fluid level. I don't have a dipstick and when it is warm outside I lose power around 3000 rpm. when I opened the fill plug I had nothing drain out. that was right after driving around and running through the manual gears.

If you have actually opened the correct plug and you cannot put a finger in and feel the oil at, or just below the filler hole level; you need to put some in.

Might be a good time to drain the tranny and refill it with fresh gear oil.

So I am right to open the fill plug and it should be draining out pretty much right?

You need to remove the drain plug also, not just the fill plug. The drain plug sits lower. Removing only the fill plug does nothing to drain the transmission.

1. Open fill plug
2. Open drain plug
3. Drain old gear oil
4. Replace drain plug
5. Through open fill plug hole, fill with new gear oil until it begins to spill out from the fill hole (this is how you can tell it’s topped off)
6. Replace fill plug

Doesn't have to be flowing out, but it oughtta be up near the bottom of the hole.

Put a finger in and feel for it like I said before.
