Pickup Fuel Capacity

Pickup Fuel Capacity
I have searched everywhere and i cant seem to get one answer. I have a 1985 pickup 4wd SR5 short bed. what size fuel tank do i have. I read my factory service Manuel and all i could find was the torque for install but not the capacity. my gas gauge is a little screwy and I'm taking a big road trip driving from southern California to northern Oregon and I need to know how much i can go on a tank. I have calculated getting any were from 18 to 20.5 mpg, and I put in an average of 13 gal. but is that even close to empty on the tank? hope its not cause i kinda need a larger range then 260 miles.
Thanks for the help

run your vin number here it should tell you: www.toyodiy.com I believe the only options were a 17 gallon and a 19 gallon tank with the 17 gal being the most common.

I searched under parts and entered my vin. it said the replacement tank was 65 liters, so I guess it is 17 gal. wow. my gauge says in empty when i still have about 4 more gals in the tank.

the sender unit are all the same. The units were set up for the 13 gal. tank. You will be able to drive quite past empty.
I have one of the few longbeds with a 19gal. tank. I drive 100miles after the gauge says I'm empty. Mine is sr5 so the gas light comes on after the 100miles. I still have 3gal. left when the light comes on. Don't stress over your gauge, its fun to tease passengers when you tell them your on empty, lol

My gauge has been broken for years, I ran out of gas the other day I thought I had longer to go. Some one brought my about 1.7 gallons of gas, then at fill up I took about 16.1. And I really clicked it a lot to get it up there. When I do fill up, I add 300 miles to the current milage and go by that. Works 99.99% of the time. PS I am making a lockable gas can holder to make sure i'm ready next time.

I believe all sr5 models had the low level fuel light. Easy to tell if yours does by looking to see how many wires are coming out of you level sensor, if it's 3 then you have the light.
Teuf: if your level don't work, don't assume like I did that it was the sender to blame, mine wasn't the sender it was severely corroded wire connections. Took it apart, re-soldered some connections on the top, rewired it and it works "like new".

I don't think the gas lights started until about '86 or so. My '85/SR5 has no light.
Tanks on the SWB vehicles were 14 and 17 gals, difference is how far down the tank hangs. The LWB trucks had the 19 gal. tank (longer), not sure if that only started in '89 or if that tank was available earlier.
