Exclamation newbie with a ?

hello everyone i am new to the toyota scene. but love it so far! i have a 94 toyota pickup with the 4cyl 4x4. i love it. ihave an issue im trying to resolve with my 4wd. the front differential is making a clunking noise and the passenger axle doesnt move when in 4wd. i am going to replace the differential and my question is what is my gear ratio for the front diff so i can buy the right one its a 94 regular cab 5 speed with the 4cyl (22r?) has manual hubs. i am also in the market for a differential i am located in the youngstown ohio area. thanks in advance.

Look on the plate mounted on the driver side door opening, it will what gears you have.

Doesn't move as in, 'Dragging on the ground while the other spins mud'?, or as in, 'Rolling but not LITERALLY engaged and driving in 4wd'?? Be sure it's your diff and not just a snapped or tweaked axle(or LOCKED up Hub) before going through all that.

Far as the gears, I think a couple guys on here will have the answers, but I'm pretty sure they're 4:10's, stock, even on that year. The front and rear gears HAVE to be the same, or you will have issues.

If it's Fuel Injected, it's the (22re), to answer your other question.

Nice to meet ya, and welcome to Yotatech! Best wishes on the troubleshooting!

Mark

i put it on jack stands and put it in 4wd and in gear and crawled under it and the axle was moving up and down side to side like it was just sitting in the differential and u can move it around with ur hand. but its like the passenger axle isnt attached to anything in the diff then it will catch and make a clunk noise spin a half turn and stop and start wiggling around again. thanks for the info guys and i just put brand new warn hubs on it today that was my first guess on what was wrong until i further investigated. maybe i will pull the axle this weekend and see if its broken.

drop the diff and the pull the front cover and take some pics. We'd like to see the carnage.
