New 4 runner owner
Hey I just picked up an '89 4 runner. I'm already in love! Its got a 3" suspension lift and 32" tires. Here's a picture
As soon as i got it home I took the top off just because the weather is nice here and I think it looks better too. My owner of my apt complex flipped out though and tried to give me a ticket for having an unsightly vehicle! The security gaurd was cool though and was on my side. I didn't get the ticket but they said I couldn't park it inside the gates with the top off
This truck seems to bring a lot of respect from most people but I guess old ladies don't like it haha.
Anyway I want to gear this beast! Its really really slow (no really
) The speedo is WAY off too. I got on the freeway doing "45" and was passing people
My friend says 4.88 gears are ideal for those size tires but I don't like super low gears for pavement driving. I will offroad it now and then but its mainly a street vehicle. I just imagine shifting to 3rd and not even being out of an intersection haha. I figure if I go offroad I'll have it 4wd anyway so that will drop the ratio down for crawling. So what do you guys recommend for a gear setup?
Also, it leaked a couple drops of oil at my parking spot but not a single drop everywhere else I have been. The truck doesn't like my apt complex either

As for the gearing 4.88's is correct for 33's and it will bring it back to stock like gearing.. also is this V6 3.0 or 22R/e

Its bull. They don't allow trucks or motorcycles inside the gates, even though all the maintenance vehicles are trucks.. With the top off they said it resembles a truck too much even though its a 4 runner SUV. I got my sportbike stolen because I had to park it out on the street instead of inside where it should have been. I want to fight them on the truck thing, its sooo stupid! One of my professors is a laywer and used to be a DA I'm going to talk to him to about this tomorrow.
edIt: this is the 22r EFI version

Welcome to the site. Welcome to the world of Yota.
I would fight them tooth and nail on the parking issue...
ITS DISCRIMINATION!!!
There are lawyers who would fight a case like this for you PRO BONO ( free of charge ) as its good publicity for them.
You should get proactive on it and ask your neighbours if they find your truck offensive. Show them pictures with the hard top removed , ask them that question and then show with the hard top in place. If they are willing, have them sign a petition and present it to the building management...
If you have already lost a sport bike, do you want to lose an SUV?

Man there sure are a lot of snobs in this world. What the hells wrong with a pick up? They dont allow people who sweat for a living to live there? It sure seems like discrimination to me too. I mean, as long as it has legal tags on it there shouldnt be any questions.
