Back in the Yotatech fold after a long absence.
We just picked up an 2002 4X4 Sport Edition 4Runner last weekend for $8900.

It has 123k on it with stock springs and shocks......Bottom line....
It rides like Fred Flintstones car.......(as I can imagine Fred's car)

This is my wife's daily vehicle so I'm not necessarily opposed to a mild lift but mostly trying to achieve a better ride. It does have 1 size bigger tires on it as well.

I have a 05 Tundra 4X4 with Donahoes, Alcan rear leafs and Bilstiens but I'm not looking to put that much money into the 4Runner lift.

We won't be wheeling it other than fire roads, mostly daily driving.

I've researched OME, Toytec, and Sonora Steel, so far, all seem to have pluses and minuses. Mostly cost versus what your going to do with the application every day.

Any personal first hand opinions/experience would be welcome?

i currently have the OME 3" lift i got from toytec and it is pretty nice but i can say that the ride is rougher than stock.

 

For the fireroad/daily driving combo, you can't go wrong with the toytec coilovers. I've ridden under OME's but they aren't as smooth on those bumpy, bucking roads.

 

I guess I should also say I won't be adding an aftermarket front or rear bumper which is what I understand OME is geared towards. (heavier front end or rear)

 

I emailed Steve @ Sonoran Steel about this exact same topic (looking to pick up a 3rd gen for the wife and would not like a lift). He said that his 3.0 system would be perfect. He noted that it would ride a bit better than stock. Even a better ride would be the 7.2 system, but it lifts the rig. I asked about the OME system, and he did say that it was geared more towards rigs with front/rear bumpers. Good luck with the purchase.

Also, just out of curiosity, did you buy that car from Las Vegas? Saw that on a local ad here.

Yes,I did buy it from a guy in LV.....it does need some TLC, but it's in great shape.....except for the stock suspension and blown shocks.
The guy actually had to come to LA to pick up a car so he drove it out to me.

 

Not all the OMEs are meant for more weight (for instance the 881s and 906s are light duty), but the medium/heavier duty coils like my 883s and 891s are. I love my OME set-up but that is because I do off road a lot and love that my 4runner rides like a truck. If you want a plush ride, stay away from OME. Wow, that's a first.. telling someone to not buy OME!!

I agree w/ cackalak han, the Sonoran 3.0 is probably the best choice for you.
