Instrument cluster blunder

I'm converting an SR5 instrument cluster into my 85. Turns out the one I bought is for a 6 cylinder. Is there any way to convert the 6 cylinder tach to a 4 cylinder?

Thanks for the response!

This conversion goes the wrong way. The tach is a 6 cylinder and the engine is a 4. The instruction at this link is the other way around. I need to make the tach read higher on the scale by 1/3.

Correct, that is why I indicated it was a 4->6 conversion. Likely you can recalibrate the tach in the same manner, just adjust in the opposite direction.

should be same process only backwards, he mentions that the original is 42.5k ohm and the v6 is 31.1k ohms

Good grief. Perhaps I should read the entire instruction before assembling my next nuclear power plant.

I'll give it a go.

Thanks!

Some mornings it's not even worth chewing through the leather straps.

It turns out that mine has a different circuit board entirely. And there just happens to be a calibration adjustment. Dialed right in. No problem.

I believe this cluster is out of an '86 because if was calibrated for a v-6... ?? It was sitting on the shelf at the Yota Yard in Denver so I'm not 100% sure. The web site listed in the response above referred to a procedure for an '85 tach.

thanks for getting me pointed in the right direction!

Mine is working extremely well. Completely satisfied. Easy conversion. All I had to do is swap out the cluster, swap out the oil pressure sender, and then recalibrate the tach.
