How long does it take do do a timing chain?

Just wondering how long I can expect it to take for me and a buddy to do the timing chain on my pickup. I'm gonna be doing it at the shop at my college and ill have maybe 4-5ish hours to work on it and if I don't get it done its gotta sit for 2 days before I can finish it.

Also any seals or anything I need to remember to get before I tear it all apart and need to go get more /waste time?

Thanks guys

Should be enough time for a 1st timer.

Are you getting a kit? Either way you need a crank seal , timing cover seals and some sort of RTV. Also helpful is some sort of degreaser and a piece of cardboard to put all the bolts thru in the location they came from on the motor (a map of the timing cover)

Yeah I'm planning on getting the enginebldr kit,

It seems like it could take a while.. With gasket scraping and cleaning. Probably some time spent just staring at it lol

I don't know I was gonna see how the guides looked. I imagine they might be torn up Its got 226,000 and I don't know that its ever been done.

Is that difficult/time consuming?

You either have to loosen/remove the head or drop the front diff

Personally i agree. U cant squeeze a TC in with pan bolted up and the head torqued down. I tried while doing a HG change and damaged the HG. So I pulled the head again and replaced the gasket. I didnt want to do all again.
Some others might know of a way to do it, but sorry Im not that one.

Granted mines an 84, i dropped the pan, pulled all the bracketry, pulled the timing cover, took an hour lunch break, started again, got her back together, it took me around 6 hours, BUT, i was dilly-dalling around, taking my time. But if you are missing any part of the guides or tensioner assembly- pull the pan. Also, dont forget the "hidden" bolt!
