Exhaust

Got a question,

My friend chopped her exhaust off before the catalytic converter and muffler, and added one of those mini muffler exhaust tips so she wouldn't "lose hp"

The thing sounds pretty mean for a little 22r. So if I cut mine off at the same point, but put a smaller muffler (than mine has stock) on it instead, would that be a good or bad idea?

What's the point to doing either other than to make it sound louder ?

BTW, I hope that your friend ran the exhaust tip out the side or rear of the vehicle and not just let it exit under the vehicle someplace.

That's what I want to do....I want my truck to sound mean, and I know that I can't do much seeing as it's just a 4 cyl. So I figured I'd get yall's opinion on what I should do. I really don't have that much cash to spend on it, I just want a cheap alternative. My dad also doesn't want me to do anything that would rob me of hp or gas mileage. Thanks, Sean

with my exhaust mods and a moded intake on my 22re i got around 25mpg and yes all those mods helped if you want ur truck to sound mean go with a shorter muffler like mine or a magnaflow muffler also it cost me around $150 bucks for a new cat back and a muffler

i had a '91 yota p/u with the 22re, i replaced the whole system from the header back with 2-1/4 pipe, replaced the cat, and used a torque tube muffler. it sounded like ☺☺☺☺, but i was young and I liked it...
