89 pickup grill problems

I have had some issue with my horn, so I removed the front grill/valance/whatever you call it, and in the process of taking it off I snapped some of the plastic fasteners that hold it to the front of the truck. The parking lamps don't fit very well either, there are some of the studs missing on them and I noticed one of the front fenders was labeled made in Taiwan and not Toyota, so I am assuming someone wrecked it at some point in time. Before I just try to tie the front of this thing back together with zip ties the redneck way, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about a good solution to the front grill. Possibly weld something up? Thanks for any ideas.

Zip ties are the norm unless you want to go to the dealer for some clips which are pretty cheap, what are you thinking of welding? The grill is all plastic or are you talking an entire new grill?

I'll probably go the zip tie route... I was just curious if anyone had come up with any slick simple design for a whole new grill that a novice welder could throw together.

I dealt with this a few weeks ago on my 1990. I went up to Oreilly's and ordered Part # 9082PK and they worked just fine. They are actually listed as being grill clips for an Izuzu pickup but they fit just fine in my truck. They are 13mm Wide and 22mm long. A pack of 25 was about $10

Thanks 77440 Wagon! I have an O'Reillys just down the street. I bet the clips for the 90 are identical to my 89!

I would think so. The new clips are slightly different but they seem to work fine, I've had them in for 3 weeks with no issues. Good luck!

Replace the plastic fasteners with expansion nuts and screws

Yes, I hate complicated fasteners where one has to guess how each comes off and goes back on, so
I modified, then replaced the plastic fasteners with expansion nuts and screws. Simpler teardown and nothing would break during tear-down.

Caution: Make sure screws don't hit anything critical behind the expansion nuts.

Thanks RAD4Runner. That is a pretty slick solution. I've been looking for something like that. Glad there are people smarter than me out there to come up with stuff like That.
