85 4runner engine?

the valve cover says 22r the firewall says 22r-ec. is this a 22r engine and the -ec means something else or has someone changed the motor. it is fuel injected. there are 3 small vaccum lines attached right at the front of the throttle body(?). the lines run to the egr(?). when you give the engine gas slowly it developes a miss. it seems to quit when you run it wide open. I unplugged middle vaccum line and the miss seems to go away. I know it is kind of vague but what could be the problem? this is all at low speeds or sitting still. the steering still has some bugs, so I don't want to get it up to speed yet.

Up untill a few weeks ago I never even rode in a yota much less worked on one so go easy on me. I just finished rebuilding the knuckles and put rears up front( which should explain the steering problem) so I am learning.

if the valve cover only says 22R, it has been changed. It should say 22RE, but the only difference between the two covers is the sticker. 22REC is what the engine actually is, tho most people just call it a 22RE (E=electronic fuel injection)

btw, how did you put the rear "knuckles" up front? thats not even possible assuming all you have all stock suspension.

22REC is the Calif. emissions 22RE version. For the vacuum lines, they run to the EGR modulator, one via the BVSV (bimetal vacuum switching valve) under the TB. The Factory Service Manual shows the proper connections:

it is squatting really bad for now. it has about 4 inches of lift in the front and stock in the rear. I gotta make some spring hangers for the chevy rears I have. I'll probably drop the gas tank so I can weld the hangers into place. the yota seems to have more flex to it than my cj, altough I almost turned it over on the dirt pile in the back yard. lol
