Believe the one in the first pic is plugged on mine too, I honestly don't know what it is.

The second is a VSV and should have a little cap similar to the VSV next to it. No line attaches.

 

Right on. I wonder what it went to. I was thinking that was where it went in the second pic. Guess I need a Capp for it then.

 

The cylinder in the first picture is the "gas filter"; all three nipples are just engine vacuum. Depending on the engine and accessories, they drive cruise control, ADD, Fuel Pressure-up, AC idle-up, and PAIR. On vehicles that don't have one (or more) of those, one of those three nipples might have a purpose-made cap, like muddpigg has. Yours obviously has something that needs that vacuum, and it now has a red-neck bypass.

As to "why" it was bypassed, it depends on what is now missing vacuum.

As muddpigg says, the VSV in the second picture opens to atmosphere, and it came with a filter like the VSV next to it. Without the filter, you could be sucking dust into (for instance) the fuel pressure regulator.

The stock cap on vacuum connector is a simple vinyl cap.
What looks like a cap on the VSV (the black cylinder) is actually a filter so no dust /particulates goes in or out when it back-fills to release vacuum

VSV colors, RED is fuel pressure up, Green is EGR, Blue is PAIR (AS), Grey is AC idle up.
For V6, I might assume I4 is the same.

 

On the 22R-E, one of the three ports on that vacuum connector is plugged (see port to right and just above the hose-clamp screw). That is stock.
That available port is good to use for a dash-mounted vacuum gage like 4crawler did.

 

The only real answer to your question is to ask the last owner.

Then it may have been done before they got the truck.

 

could be as simple as the previous owner lost the stock plug on that fitting. i lost mine (actually, the end cracked, so it no longer sealed) and i replaced it exactly the same way, with a short piece of vacuum line and a stainless screw.

might be redneck, but it doesn't leak.

So I'm gathering that I just need to Capp mine off. I was thinking I could get some more line and connect the two but then like some of you mention(the redneck Capp) is why it doesn't have a Capp. The p/o isn't gonna know as he didn't know much about it before but thanks for the pics and the awesome advice.
