What does this connector / sensor do ?

Hegy guys this connector / wire was broken off in my 1987 22R Pickup engine bay. The connector is close to the thermostat housing. It had a green wire with red stripe. Any ideas on what this is for ?

Looks like possibly 22R coolant temperature switch connector. Does it look like it would plug into this?

My guess is junkyard, but maybe someone else will know a source. You could temporarily crimp on a spade connector if you need to drive it.

Joey at the 4runner house may have one, if you can get him to answer a phone call or text.

You have the connector body (and it looks in pretty good shape). That is the hard part. All you need to do is extract the current pins (you probably just need a tiny screwdriver), crimp new pins onto your wires, and insert them back into the body. You might have to extend the wires (but probably not).

Okay, that doesn't sound trivial, but it sure beats roaming the wastelands of Pic-U-Part.

Here's a good picture of the tab that locks iit into the connector. You just need to slide something down to flatten it out so the terminal comes out. This photo was taken from Eastern Beaver's website. I get my Yazaki terminal ends from them. Fantastic quality. Takes 1-2 weeks to get, but very reasonable on price.

The little black rubber seal in the back of the connector (where the wire used to come out) was actually pretty dang easy for me to remove when I had to fix similar. Just pry out the rubber and you'll be bale to see in there and get a better idea of what you are up against. When you put it back in, maybe add the tiniest amount of RTV to the rubber to make it seal real good again.
