What is this cable on my throttle body?

No, its not the throttle cable. Just picked up this truck (1992 pickup with 22RE) second hand and I have good reason to believe the previous owner was a moron. Anyhow there is a loose cable coming from some sort of vacuum chamber thing on the driver side wheel well. In this picture (not my truck, found it on here somewhere) the cable is on top of the throttle body (green arrow) and my cable looks like it used to be in the same place, connected to the throttle actuator. What does this thing do, and should I hook it back up? The truck runs well, except it has a rough idle.

cable

If it's not the throttle cable, or cruise control going to a vacumn diaphram, then its the TV cable going to the auto trans. Has to be one of those.

If it goes over to the driver side wheel well and is connected there, then its part of the cruise control.

Cruise control. If you want it, hook it up.

Yeah, I'd bet it's an attempt at cruise control too. My SR5 doesn't have cruise but the bracket is there and everything to install it, just need all the gear to set it up.

Yep, it is the cruise control cable. Wierd though, the truck didnt come with cruise control. It looks like someone tried to put CC in because there is a little janky looking (aftermarket?) CC box stuck to the dash. They must have gotten CC parts from another vehicle and tried to put it in. Seems like more work than its worth, although I should check it out to see if I can get it to work.

in the photo he posted, that IS the throttle cable and linkage

here's a similar setup in a Cressada

but what the OP is describing, that's the cable for the cruise control

OP, we need a pic of YOUR vehicle to be certain, but it does song like the cruise control cable, considering you described the cable as coming from "a vacuum canister"
