I'm installing a cone filter and now have no place for the secondary hose that attaches to the old filter box...91 3.0...Will it matter If it doesn't hook up on the airbox side? It doesn't seem like it will...

 

yeah, that's the resonator thing. I have a 22re, but we have them too. What you have to do is either get a hose with a hole in it or drill one out yourself. Basically, that little hose sucks vacuum and it just needs air from the filter.

What I did was just get a little breather filter (looks like a mini version of the cone filters) and stick it on there. I've also just cut a hole in the tube somewhere and connected it...as long as it gets filtered air somewhere.

All this is assuming that the 3.0's are the same as mine. There are other posts on here about the 3.0 mod, just do a search. On the 22re what it does is take in air and mix it with the exhaust gases and cleans it up somehow.

 

Ahhh great thanks! Seems K&N has the only kit on the market that comes with an adaptor for that hose...should have gone with them instead of this kit...Live and learn I guess.

Explains what you disconnected from the intake. Something about reducing the HC and CO emissions. Might not matter performance wise, but you may find some issues with emission testing should you need them in your area.

You could probably tie this line back into your intake pipe with a fitting of sorts if need be. FYI, in my truck I run a similiar setup and eliminated the resonator all together but kept the line to intake. Supposed to be noiser, but I didn't really notice a change.

With that said, looks like you have a very clean setup installed.

As to the resonator...I figure I should be ok as before it was hooked up in front of the MAF, therefore it looks as though it really does only need filtered air and not to be tied in after...Hope this is the case at least...guess I'll find out next smog check. Good idea on the tying the line in though if need be.

I just put one of those mini filters on the solid pipe where the hose used to go over to the resonator and removed the resonator box and hoses. Did'nt cause any problem for clean air (smog) cash grab (test) for my truck. Cheers aviator.

 

Ahhh great thanks for the info Aviator. Think I will get rid of that resonator today. Now if it will only pass for the smog nazis here in California.
