Well Finally Got it Fixed

Weeeee Fixed!!!

Well some of you know about my accident awhile ago. Turned out to be just under Superior Court level to sue that girl that hit me...Toyota wanted $4350 and the limit is $5000...I could have taken her to Small Claims but, in CA they make you try to deal with the other party...From the looks of it she didn't have alot and, if she had said she would pay even like $50 a month the judge probably would have accepted it...My lawyer had three open cases against CALIFORNIA CASUALTY INSURANCE and said "THEY NEVER PAY"...In short, don't get insurance there or you WILL BE PAYING OUT THE SNOUT FOR ANY CLAIM YOU TRY TO FILE....

Well, in short, I let it lapse saying to myself "It gives it character". Then that excuse did not wash anymore! SO, I bought the parts, spent a good 8 hours plus working on it, and it went from this:

TO THIS!!!

NOW all it needs is to be painted...If I didn't like this thing so much I would have dumped it but it has a brand new motor, tranny, and almost everything else...the things we do for autos...As I said Toyota had quoted $4350 without looking underneath...I did it for a little over $600...Not even worried about painting the fender just glad it drives straight on the freeway now...It no longer sucks in air under that mess!

Looks great! I wish I had skills like that. And I know you are not only happy about saving some dough, but proud you did the job yourself. (assuming you are not a bodyman) Soon, I am going to tackle a few dents I have and probably paint the whole truck flat black. That way, touch-ups are easy. I think flat black looks a little dumb on little cars, but on a wheeling rig it looks mean. I will try and post some before/after pics as well in another thread. It might be a while though. Plus, I am still trying to get the image hosting junk down.

Yeah it was a job for a non body work guy...Kind of like sculpting with a 4 pound sledge, a socket extension and a 2 by 4 to get the kinks in the engine compartment out...hehehe...Sure does look a whole lot better though...

Hmmmm be really cool to see that in flat black when it gets done!

oh the pics are there...just need a super refresh and maybe a cache clear, they'll show. Thanks guys, nice to know there's others that appreciate these second gens!!!

Thanks guys...Well thinking about the paint...Might just repaint the whole thing the same color. Geez the clear coats on these things last forever though...This one's still in pretty good shape after spending most of it's life in Tahoe and Monterey (read snow and rain here.)

Lt. Dan: You said it man. Sheesh!

Hmmmm could get a bullbar and weld some sharpened re-bar to it for next time.

use reactive armor...blows up on severe impact protecting the body.

Yeah that ablative stuff works great alot of the time.

No injuries...I was going downhill in a curve at about 30 and there she was at 90 degrees to me in my lane in a Geo Metro 4 door...the time basically gave me the decision of whether I was going to kill her or not, that's how close it was. My only thought was: not today. Lucky I got my wheels stopped by the time I hit her car; as it was I hit her right in front of the driver's front door and totalled what turned out to be her mom's car.

Geez that is one clean looking rebuild. NICE!!!

Yea thats good there werent any injuries. The explorer my wife hit rolled 3 times. The frame on my truck wasnt even out 1mm which means they are built like tanks.
