just sent an email to COLT CAMS requesting a price and I specified that they are the ones SEA2SKY used to sell for the 3VZE.

we'll see what happens. I will post any reply I get.

Does anyone know the specs to these cams? I've got RV cams (402 lift 222 duration) in my 3VZ-E right now, in addition to oversized valves.

$400 isn't too bad. Considering the shims and shipping are free. I assume he only means shipping from, and not to his facility.

His site says:

Besides, he could make more money off us if he didn't offer a better deal on a group buy. Which is fine by me, because I still have no idea how long it's going to be before I get my funds situated.

So these aren't cams sold outright, they need your old cams to 're-grind' ??

Does anyone know where Johnny ever went, or did he just fall off the map?

I'd like to get my hands on a pair of these and I emailed Coltcams and got no response back?

Any info would be helpful.

Sea2sky Tuning went under a while ago... Last I heard he was clearencing all his old stock for good... Dunno about colt cams, but if you can get the specs, contact delta camshaft and they can grind you a set for cheap...

Geoff Bardal/Colt Cams ground my stock cams this summer, I'm just now getting around to re-installing them in the 3.0. $380.00 plus taxes. Turned them around in a week...

Wicked!

You should put up a post here with some news and a sound bite, or a video would nice! Definitely Let me know how they turn out. These are my last hope before doing an engine swap. A couple more horse in the 3vze will keep me occupied for another couple years.

So are you rebuilding both heads or just replacing the cams? Cause a head rebuild would add another $800 to the table...no?

Weasy's Cams

sexonwheels:
I'll post when I get this fired up. It'll be a while, this is a long term project, no hurry to get her fired back up. I've got headers, lift kit, axles and a brake conversion to go. Then paint.

dieselloco:
Specs for cam: .410 lift and looks like 216 duration. Spec sheet's not clear. C.701.s marked by Colt on the cams.

Weasy's Cams

Also: price was $375.00 plus hst: $420.00 total. Just looked up the duration/lift on the receipt and saw I was wrong above.

Took some .0015" flat stock and cut 34mm shims for setting up the valve lash instead of trying to swap out the factory shims. Lash set up nicely with these farmered shims. Anyone else done this?

I keep forgetting to reply to your questions at each post:

Engine is relatively new: 145000km, but the truck is old. Not planning on rebuilding the heads. It's got updated gaskets and looks near new. No plans for motor after cams/headers.

Say huh?

So you made yourself some .0015" shims out of flat stock, as in mild steel? Really? How? You some kind of machinist or something? Pretty slim tolerances on those parts. I suppose one could fab some up with the right tools...I guess.

HOWEVER...

Hate to say it...BUT...you're screwed. That's not going to work at all...for very long anyways. Better be some SLIGHTLY tougher grade steel than that for this particular application. How do I know the shims are so HARD? I ground some that were a little too thick down to adjust the clearance on my exhaust valves. Took me quite a bit of grinding just to make any noticeable change in thickness. Probably as hard a steel as I've EVER seen in my life/personal experiences.

Good luck with that!!!

BTW, how in the HELL did you get ALL the valves ANYWHERE CLOSE to the right clearance WITH ONE SIZE SHIM FOR ALL OF THEM?!

That CAN NOT be true...sorry...not buyin' it!!!

I don't see how flat stock would work either. Tolerances and Machinist skills aside aren't those shims heat treated? It's probably why as MudHippy so delicately put it, "as hard a steel as I've EVER seen in my life".

Then I got to thinking ".0015" is awfully thin, can that even be right?"

Turns out...NO it can't be right. .015" can't even be right. The thinnest shim from the factory is .0866", and the thickest is .1399". So you'd need to stack 57.73 of your .0015" shims to equal the thickness of the thinnest shim from the factory. Not that you should EVER consider stacking these shims.

So all this basically means you're full of it...and you know what "it" is.
