w58 transfercase question...

i got a w58 tranny in my 4runner with a 22re and it has a chain driven transfercase. is it possible to change the transfercase to a gear driven on the w58 trans? or do i have to change out the whole trans and transfercase?

Are you sure? The w58 was a car tranny.

G58 maybe? with the VF1A transfer case? wanting to put a 1979-1991 RF1A top shift transfer case in? Don't know if the 1980-1995 RF1A forward shift would work or not with the bucket seats.

I think he means G58. The 4runner would be a 89-95 with ADD. Though I'm not sure about swapping out for a gear driven case.
How many bolts hold the t-case to the transmission?

Pretty sure your going to have to switch to a W56 trans to get the gear driven case.

I think you're OK if you want duals...
http://www.marlincrawler.com/transfe...in-drive-tcase
...but I'm not sure you can do anything with a single case.

Also, all this fun comes with a price. Ouch.
