1988 3vze Help
Here's the stats
1988 Toyota 4x4 Truck 279,??? miles
3vze
5speed
4" suspension lift
3" bodylift
35" AT's
Alright that done here's my problem. My 3vze finally croaked after years of great service. We found a newer model motor with 52,??? miles. We changed out the upper intake, the oilpan, motor mounts, and other apparent items. I put a new to me 1988 distributer, mine was leaking oil inside the cap. I had to change out the ends on the wires going to the injectors. We started it up (it ran very badly but was getting fuel at this time) and figured out the number 3 exhaust valve was stuck from sitting. We got it freed up and now have a new problem that just started NO FUEL! There is no power going to the fuel pump (while switching the ignigtion on and off as you would do a chevy). We ran a fused hot wire from a toggle switch to the fuel pump and have fuel pressure at the fuel rails but there is still no fuel hitting the cylinders. Both wires going to the injectors are hot while the key is on and with no change while cranking. No pulsing or anything? Any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks Beau

'93 Not sure though and no I didn't change the ECU. I for all purposes used the long block to build a '88 model ,except the lower intake. And I forgot to add it will run like a top while you are spraying gas in the intake. Are you thinking the ECU is the problem I've changed everything on the motor, except the injectors and used the factory wiring harness. Everything was working while the valve was stuck go figure right.

The '88 3VZE used a completely different wiring system than '89 and later. You probably noticed that the wiring connector plugs were different when you were doing the swap. If you retained everything electrical from the original and just used the "long block" or mechanical parts from the new motor, you shouldn't have a problem. You would have had to swap any electrical sensors (cold start, temperature sensors, oil pressure, injectors, etc.) from the old motor to the donor.
Now you mentioned changing the distributor? Did you have to do any wiring connector changes to make the newer distributor hook up?
Why did you have to change out the wires going to the injectors? Because the connectors were different from your '88 harness to the injectors that were in the donor motor?

"1988 distributor new to me" So no to the first question.
Yes to the second this is the only eletrical parts we didn't change between the motors my old motor was due for some new ones. Everything was working prior to the valve freeing up. Any ideas? Oh and thanks for the quick replies guys I appreciate it.

I can't find anything about efi relays or anything similar except an older post concerning a 22RE. I'm not sure if these set ups are similar but he was having the same issue and never posted what fixed. This is a very helpful thread on this subject gives me some very good starting points https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...orking-134918/ It was just hard to find!
