TruTrac Locker ?.

How well would a trutrac work in the front of my axle of my 86 4Runner ?, (it has a solid axle up front) would it work ok for street driving as well as off roading ?.

seeeeeeearch...

yes it should be fine. I think it's a recommended traction aid in front diff's or get a selectable locker.

I have done lots of searching, but i just don`t know what makes some lockers or limited slips better than other, so you can search all you want, but if you just don`t know then you have to ask.

http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/TrueTrac.shtml

Its quite simple really, this diagram should be ample explanation.

Well, I have NO idea what your truck has now. Are you running 40's? Then no, a trutrac would not be a good choice. Trutracs are good up front becuase they don't lock up 100%. Makes turning easier. They're also geared instead of clutch plates like other LSD's(plus some need an additive to work better). Of course a detroit locker is a fully automatic locker and with a little finese, you could probably deal with one of those up front. What's your budget? Get an ARB.

Here's a link to NWOR about locker/trutrac, it's pretty generic:

My apologies if that sounded abrassive.

Im running 37`s , so the trutrac should work fine, if i had the money i would go with an ARB, but i don`t. I would never put a detroit locker in the front on any truck because it limites your turning radius real bad. I know someone that has them front and rear and any sharp turn he comes to it a 60 to 100 point turn, so im not doing that to my truck.

No ox locker for Toyotas unfortunately.

If you need more than a Truetrac, look at an Aussie locker. I daily drive one about 30mi/ day through the city. Still like it- see my signature.

I read you review on the Aussie locker you installed in the rear of your truck, right now the rear diff on my runner is welded, but i may chang it over to an Aussie in the future.

I imagine San Paulo doesn't see much snow, so an auto-locker might work well in the front there.

I wheel with a buddy who has a tru trac in the front of his XJ. He really likes it in the snow but it is constantly letting him down in the rocks. He's going to switch to an ARB.

Since you welded the rear of your 4runner a limited slip in the front will help. It won't be as good as a locker but it's on road manners will be better (unless it's an ARB or similar) although you will know it's there. It will be less likely to break parts than a locker.

What type of wheeling do you do?

I ran welded rear/TT front on my IFS 89 and it was very capable with that set up.
