tranny solenoid problems?

so i think ive finally decided my 3.0 auto has a solenoid problem which is causing no power at all, it will top out at like 70 on a flat mile(shifting manuelly), and wont rev over 3k when driving in high range. some people recomended theres 2 solenoids in the tranny and if there not working together my truck will not start out in the right gear? and shift properly, although it doesnt seem to slip at all, anyone know about this problem and if so whats involved in changing these solenoids????? any infos greatly appreciated

There is actually 4 solenoids. Sounds like the lock up solenoid, but you need to pull the codes. Jumper the t and te i believe, and watch the O/D light and the check engine light. Search on here for pulling codes and for trouble codes and it will point you in the right direction.

My 92 would shift from 1-3 when I bought it. Someone removed OD light..got a screamin good deal because car lot thought tranny was shot. Replaced OD light pulled code 63 I believe. Removed solenoid #2 from tranny on Friday night and couldn't get replacement till Monday. Just for fun Re-soldered connection to the coil and it tested ok on battery. Re-installed solenoid in tranny, new filter and oil, tranny shifts good. Over 2000km still OK.

Solenoids are easy to change as tranny has a drain plug.
-Drain fluid
-remove all but 2 bolts from pan.
-loosen remove front driveshaft at the front pumpkin, leave yoke attached, just swing out of way.
-remove 4 bolts for front swaybar and let it droop as you will need clearance to remove pan.
-remove remaining 2 bolts and carefully pop pan off with flat screwdriver.
-remove filter 11 bolts IIRC.
-remove 10MM bolt holding solenoid.
-test solenoid on battery by touching metal bracket to ground and wire to
+ terminal. You will hear solenoid snap if working.

I didn'nt have to touch any driveshafts but that could be due to the different engine trans combo maybe.
