Towing Capacity

I have searched and have found no definitive answer to what the manufacturers towing ratings are on these trucks.

I have a 1991 Toyota ext cab 22RE 5spd truck, and I would like to tow a 5,000lb landscape trailer. I no I will have to wire the truck for trailer brakes, but is the truck rated for this? The trailer will roughly weigh 3,100lbs including the weight of the trailer. I want to be legal and everything, but cannot find out if the truck is rated for it. I know it will not be a power house and it won't be able to do 70 on the highway, but can it tow the trailer legally?

Per my owners manual, the towing limit was 3,500 lbs. I don't know what the limiting factor of the truck is (brakes, frame intergrity, HP).

What is way to much? 3500lbs?

you'd like to tow a 5000lb trailer that weighs 3100lbs...and you're asking if 3500lbs is too much? these numbers are confusing.

trailer GVW of 5000lbs, but actual weight is 3100lb. Meaning that the trailer is rated to carry up to 5000lb including the weight of the trailer and payload. With my payload the weight of the trailer is going to weigh 3100lb with the trailer inlcuded.

I didn't no it was rated at 3500lbs until ProjectMcFly said so.

TNRabbit said thats WAY too much, and I am trying to figure out if he ment 3100lbs is too much.

is it 4x4? i have pulled more then that with my 22re the worst part is stopping as along as you take your time it should be no problem. and make sure you have actual hitch the stock bumper is not good for anything over 1000lbs

no i will have a full reciever style hitch, and wiring it for trailer brakes also.
