Silicone Vacuum Hoses illegal?

I changed all my old vacuum hoses on my truck to new silicone ones when I rebuilt it and a smog tech told me that they are illegal. They are the same size and perform the same way just that they are silicone. I was wondering if anyone can confirm this or if there is any documation stating that they are in fact illegal. I searched but could not find an answer to my question. I searched the package that they came in and nowhere does it say offroad/race only or not legal. I'm in california

Get a second opinion from another smog guy in your area.

Get a 2nd, 3rd and 4th opinion. I can't see how it would make any difference. As long as they don't leak and it passes. But then again it's California so I wouldn't be surprised if they have a rule on vacuum hose material.

Did he fail you for the hoses AFTER you paid??? Were they colored hoses? I used the black silicone hoses, and no problems with CA smog, though the color shouldn't matter. I'd file a complaint with the regulating agency for fraud if I believed it'd do anything!

BS - go back to the SAME place and MAKE him show you in their "book" where it says they are illegal, demand they redo the inspection and issue the sticker for free for taking up your time unnecessarily. Make them pay out of their pocket for their lack of training, etc - it's the only way to keep it from happening again.

I had to make a smog tech read the book and the hood sticker THREE times before he finally "got it" that my '89 was legal (he failed me for not having an O2 sensor on my carbureted truck ... dumbass)

Thats ridiculous. They tried to fail me for no Catalyst sticker, when they are supposed to look it up in their book and cross check that the sticker is valid. Of course i chimed in and they smogged it.

Take someone with good "examples" of silicone, you'll pass.

My '85 has gone through a few CA smog checks with the silicone hoses and not even a second look:

He didnt fail me he just said that they were illegal, he said they fail rice burner hondas all the time for those hoses. I'm running red hoses just like 4crawler. I contacted the california air resources board (CARB)and they told me that the hoses were ok.I printed the email and put it in the truck just in case I ever have problems. I know that using certain hoses is illegal for example a heater hose being used as a pcv hose is illegal but I was surprized because these are vacuum hoses being used for vacuum.

EDIT: sorry, never mind this post, it was a little over the top, lol

yeah that's pretty stupid... no emmesion tests here in Fl (thank god, or my truck would NOT be on the road, lmao ), and I've still never heard of that before...

IT'S A HOSE! IT MOVES AIR/VACUUM! WHAT'S THE BLOODY DIFFERENCE!!!
