I wish....judging from some of the attempts/threads I've seen. that would be an INCREDIBLY complex conversion....

Not really that bad.

You can buy motor mounts, bellhousing and all the wiring info is out there. I really think the biggest hurtle is the cost.

Its would be great though, all the power you need, same mpg (or better in most guys cases) and a nice reliable all aluminum motor.

I don't know; I've read a lot about issues with oil pan clearance/custom pans, headers (OEM manifolds don't fit), and matching up transmissions.

hmm.

for me, I am going the 7M route, but then again, my truck is now offically a project truck, and cost isn't really a factor in that decision.

I STILL say, even now that I own a 5VZ, that there is no way that swap is ever worth the money it costs...

Well from what I have read, a 2-3" body lift allows the engine to sit up high enough to clear the oil pan, and the stock manifolds.

A little tranny tunny pounding is in order...

I spend a lot of time over on www.lextreme.com Lotsa guys on there have done the swap!

The big issues would be:

Cost for the r150f/1uz bellhousing adapter and a flywheel
Cost of cooling system (bigger the rad and fan the better!)
possible driveline lengthening/shortining needed

You might want to rethink that statement. A body lift (by itself) doesn't raise the engine. Just admit it... that is a hard swap compared to the 3.4.

There hasn't been enough talk about the resurfacing step IMHO. One guy the other day mentioned that a machine shop had wrongly resurfaced his head using an abrasive meant for a cast iron head. Aluminum is much softer than cast iron and is harder to get smooth with abrasives.

My machine shop guy said that the heads were supposed to be resurfaced in a particular way because of the aluminum. Wonder if he compared it to basically cutting off very thin slices of the metal... If there is interest I can call up there again and see if I can get a confirmation on that.

I'm interested, my 5VZ has aluminum heads too.

I remember one guy posted up pics of his heads after resurfacing and it looked like the shop took a belt sander with 80 grit sand paper to them.

By That, I ment a body lift allowed you to put the engine in, sitting higher. Thus clearing the oil pan and such.

No doubt it would be a harder swap, but very worth it! If im gonna swap a motor, I want more then 30hp gain..

thank you! I've been saying the same thing. Idk about you guys, but 3k+ for 30 HP? no thanks. 7MGTE with a few mods is about the same price, and then you're talking 200% gains. Around 300 HP, plus the sweet turbo and inline 6 sounds. Sure, you could supercharge the 3.4, but that means you easily end up with nearly 5K or more in the engine, and it still won't touch that 7M. Dump 5k into a 7M swap and you'll be a happy camper...
