Reverse headlight conversion

I've been searching and have found several threads on running the later second gen 4runner grille, rad support, and headlights on a pickup. I'd like to go the other way to make use of e codes or even led headlamps on my 1995 4runner.
I haven't been able to find anyone that went this route yet. Does anyone know how elaborate of a swap this would be? Same as the normal route?

Thanks in advance.

By LED you mean HID style lights? RSR and myself along with many others have done the conversion to H4 style bulbs/lenses. RSR even has a writeup on it.

Actually am looking at something other than hid. I have run them in the past, and am wary of running them again without a projector setup. I'll look for the thread.

Don't know why you couldn't... The corner lights for at least some of the 95 4runners are the exact same part as on my Hilux 4x4 pickup (VZN 110 VIN).

Probably just a matter of swapping the grille and getting the headlight grille housings and then all the headlight parts.

What you have: http://www.toyotapartsoverstock.com/...rimLevel=18205

What's also in the 95 4Runner catalog like the pickups:
http://www.toyotapartsoverstock.com/...rimLevel=18205

I can't imagine that there's any significant differences at the frame level...

The big thing is to ensure your donor vehicle's (I'd say go to a scrap yard and pull everything) corner lights match -- 2wds slope down and 4wds slope up at the side...

Been done recently: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116.../#post52041299

Regardless, look at my writeup. An auxillary light harness is still a good add on.

A bunch of people on this forum, myself included have sucked it up and spent the $$ on LED headlights..besides highsteer, one of the best $400 I have blown on my truck. High beams are drawing about 1/4 the juice of the H4's..

This is what I'd like to do eventually. For now though, im looking into the logistics of putting the grill and rectangular headlights on my 95 4runner.

From what I've read over at ToyotaMinis, you can do the conversion the "ghetto" way by drilling new holes and hoping everything aligns properly, or you can swap the entire core support (suprisingly, a lot of 2wd guys do that). Not 100% sure on this, but that's what I read IIRC.

I'm going througn an out-of-province inspection on my truck as we recently moved. The shop doing my inspection was really impressed with the truck lites. I had already had them adjusted by a trucking company, but they have to check aligment as part of the inspection and he said they had the best cut-offs he's seen on after market lights, plus they look sexy.

The toyota mini 2wd truck has a different frame than the hilux base 4wds and 4runners. 4runners have always been exclusively made in japan. Most 2wd pickups started being made in CA in like 1988 or 90 I think and 4wd pickups started in 94... Point being, the I'm pretty confident that w/ the 4wd hilux pickups and 4runners the major differences are only from behind the front seats back (slightly different center consoles however).

Should just be a matter of finding a donor vehicle. Either a 4wd pickup or 4runner w/o the fancy lights will work great.

Internationally, I think through 97 or 99 the hiluxes all sport the same front end as this gen pickups/4runner (some hilux trucks do have your 4runner lights however).

As I said, look at Part #s in the parts catalog for 4runner vs 4wd pickup. Should be direct install once you have all the parts -- no jerry rigging needed.

Yes, there are both US and Japanese made vehicles... Only starting w/ the Tacoma are the nearly all of the US Toyota trucks American made. And think the Tundras started the same trend on the larger version (think T100s were Japan manufacture).

Why? The US has a 25% import duty on foreign passenger trucks/pickups. It's complicated into how the tariff calculates value, but that's why stuff like AC, the 31" tire package, the SR5 package, towing package, etc, were done in America after the trucks cleared customs and the tariff was paid...

SUVs the tariff doesn't apply, so that's why 4Runners/Hilux Surfs are still made overwhelmingly in Japan.

Did a quick search on toyodiy.com's part catalog...
US Toyota pickup production started in 1991 at the CA NUMMI, dated 1992 for 2wds only, the RN80 series.

1992 production quickly grew, and all of the following were US made, dated 1993 year. Regular cabs, Xtra cabs, Hiluxes, 2wds, etc. http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/q_U_199...TRUCK_all.html
(Under product, click the box next to NAP, Produced at NUMMI if you're interested -- US Made VINs start with 4TA)

*And also don't forget all the upgrades/conversions done in the US too to keep tariffs lower...

Lastly, a couple cool things about Toyodiy.com are that when looking up by VIN, 1) it tells you the exact parts you need (more accurate than online parts catalogs or dealer in my experience) and 2) tells you the specifics about your truck's manufacture that might interest you (sticker inside your door has even more info, but still cool).
Here's mine:
09/1992 TOYOTA 4RUNNER TRUCK (VZN110L-CRPGEA)
SR5 JPP USA XTR T1 3VZE EFI ATM 4FC CBU
