It was a popular mod on the 22re for a while, certain years swap in without rewiring or programming, but theyre usually installed by swapping battery and intake positions.
22rte has a different intake hose so you dont need to do the battery swap...the gears in my head are moving now.
What progress I’ve made so far. Got the truck originally looking like a california gardener’s beat up flatbed with wood side panels. Long way to go.
how can i lift the front more to accomodate the 31s?
Ill tell you how to lift it if you send me your flatbed.
Jk jk
Ball joint spacers
haha if you're in LA come scoop it up.
this is height post 2.5” ball joint spacers and torsion tightening 12 turns. Debating getting struts. The rear i have sorted with AAL+6inch shackles just stumped on the front end and why its sitting so low
Hey guys, new to the forum and was told to post a pic of my rig in this thread.. I got this beauty given to me, its a 1986 4WD with the 22RE.. she lived in a field for almost 13 years, not running, but now its my daily. I will post up some pics of when it was still in the field but as of today this is how she sits. Still doing alot of work on it but happy with everything so far. Surprisingly clean front bumper lol
Got a lot of big plans with this rig, really can't wait to get it up in the mountains but needs some more work before she is ready for that. Anyone got any advice on things to fix or upgrade let me know, this is my first 4x4 so still learning alot.
Nice runner!
My 1st piece of advice for a new truck is to test the 4x4 before you need it.. .speaking from experience
This is true, I've been meaning to test it keep spacing it out.. just out of curiosity, how do you suggest putting into 4WD.
on the vehicles I have driven that has 4WD you just push a button while at a stop. Obviously this is going to be different.
It will be different and thats one of the reasons these old yotas are so popular: less electronic junk, more metal!
Find a patch of dirt, gravel, grass, etc Flip the hubs from free to lock. Put your shifter into 4hi. You may or may not notice it gripping depending on the surface youre driving on but if your 4wd dash light comes on you should be good.
Shifting into 4lo is the same except you have to be in neutral to get in 4lo before putting it back in gear. 4lo will move you forward like a turtle, you will notice the difference!
If 4wd hasnt been used in a while, even a couple months or weeks, it might take driving forward then back a handful of times before everything lines up and locks in.
Id love to give you more words of "wisdom" from all the mistakes Ive made but I dont want to crowd the picture thread with my ramblings...so start a thread and lets hear what youve done so far and what you got planned for the 4Runner.
Rad4Runner's Revenge
Spent the past few weeks researching, waiting for parts and implementing solutions for parts and implementing solutions for eaking steering gear box and refining my dual-battery setup. Just in time for for a road trip to celebrate my.wife's bday with a California Central Coast road trip. Wild open, airy, sunny spaces where we can camp miles away from others are locked down for KungFlu/fires so no offroad/BML/USFS camps, just semi-urban boondocking. Montana de Oto State Park, overlooking Morro Bay View from Spooner's Cove, Montana de Oro SP.
Built a custom rear suspension setup using stock mounting points. Took it for a test drive today to check clearances and enjoy the fruits of my labor. I Am very happy with the outcome. Articulation and behavior are significantly improved for offroad use. You can see the build in my build thread if you are interested.

Looks almost as good as Nordstrom parking
Hiking Barefoot on Bell Rock.
U.S.F.S. dispersed camps a-plenty here Simplified "firecracker fish". Tasty with just shiracha sauce and soy sauce and olive oil so less likely to stick. Portable stoves like this are not recommended beyond fair-weather picnics. Iso-butane or even propane tank loses pressure, gets cold and loses pressure even more as you cook. OK for Barbie and Ken picnic.
Looks fantastic. Lotsa fun
I bet, though, you wouldn't be hiking barefoot come summer time! You'd wind up with you feet cooked worse than your firecracker fish
