Any adverse affects here with the ebay intake setup? I purchased and installed one awhile back but immediately re-installed the stock air-box after seeing the moisture accumulate so close to the open air filter after a simple car wash. When I have time, I plan to draw up and fab an enclosure for the aftermarket "ChromeIntake" filter. Ducting cool ram air would be the idea. The ceramic headers offer heat reduction but anyone running this open filter style may want to take heat into consideration as well as possible water contamination. I would speculate driving through a puddle or while its raining could eventually pose risk to water to the throttle body.

I just started reading this thread today, had no idea you could do it with out purchasing a cold air intake kit! I went and bought another rubber tube like the one that connects to the intake for 78 cents. Used it on the other end, put a piece of traight aluminum tube in the middle. The 2 hoses, the big one I connected to the big one on the air box, the small one I drilled a litle tiny hole in the air box, so it would get filtered air, I cut the nipple the little one use to plug into off the old breather box, pushed it out from the inside, put sealer on it. Runs like a champ and is vey noticable. I removed all but the air box, even the triangle thing. No noises. I think the one guy spun a bearing reving it up to listen to the diffrence. Its so easy and cost me 78 cents.

After riding in it, I went through the drive threw, and could hear the exhaust sound on the big hose. So I put the triangle thing back on it to keep that part quiet. Other than that its an awesome deal.

Alright, I've been looking into this mod and I just want to make sure of a few things and the way I'm going to do it before I start.

-The hose on the right that's one of the three in front of the plenum, instead of routing it back to the intake, I've seen someone put a filter on it, so that's what I'm going to do, if that's an okay thing to do. I'd put it back to the intake, but I don;t have tools to move the nipple over to the new intake and I'm a high school kid with little money, so this is going to be done as cheaply as possible.

-The hose coming out of the valve cover, I'm also going to put a filter on that; again if it's okay and again for the same reason.

-If I have those to hoses on filters, I won't have any other hoses to mess with, right?

-Is there anything I have to do with the thing (I'm guess it's the actual silencer?) below the air filter since that pipe is no longer part of the intake.

-And last but not least, does this mod effect smog?

Thanks guys. I'd like to think I could do this mod right now without any help, but I just like to double check everything before I mess up.

Here is what mine looked like before i needed to crawl through water and mud:
Post your ISR Mod Pics!-0523.jpg
Today I came across some scrap diabond which will improve cooling and reduce heat. My plan is to constructing a surround for the filter and duct through some stock components to reduce risk of waterlock or any other contaminants while driving through mud, deep puddles. Eventually i'll come across a piece of lexan to cap the the top of the filter with a latch/hinge/gasket setup so I can open her up for easy access to the filter. Let me know what you think, and how I could improve it:

Where are you going to tap the two uncapped VAC lines right above your plug wires?

I've got some 5/8 tubing that I ran to the top of the AFM box for the PAIR valve and some 3/8 tubing that I ran to a nipple on the underside of the aluminum tubing for the A/C idle-up. I'll add a pic of that when I get some decent weather to take a good pic.

what's with the silver insulation on the underside of the hood? sound or heat? and wouldn't that make it run hotter?

Heat insulation. Put it on there after I had the hood repainted. The old insulation had fallen apart. Didn't want to take any risk on having the paint damaged by the heat. It doesn't run any hotter - going on the temp gauge reading and IR thermometer readings around the engine bay.
