The Spectre piece I bought is aluminum and came from AutoZone, part #8219. It also came with a silicone sleeve and two hose attachment points (one welded, one grommet) all for $40.

I had to be a little creative cutting some length off the long end and adding a couple of inches on the short end, joining the two with the sleeve it came with. Pretty easy really and NOT plastic.

the three hose that are left
One is for the PAIR that hose connects to the triganular box
Two hose is a crankcase valve
Three hose connected to the silencer BUT WHAT DOES IT CONNECT TO ON THE OTHER END?

you can put the PAIR on a breather. it's not metered air and all it needs is a breather, but you can hook it up some where in front of the VAMF if you want.

The crankcase vent needs to be hooked up behind the VAMF (on the intake)

The smaller hose that connects to the silencer is part of the vacuum system junk on the other side of the motor, it needs to be hooked up on the intake.

ok Awesome its part of the a/c idle up system cool.
Essentially I was asking if I could eliminate it which is a no.
I'm removing the egr and pair so those lines are going away, and the crankcase is getting a small filter, and I'm redoing my intake to a cowl snorkel like 4crawler

A hacksaw would do it easily, but cutting a straight line is tough. I stopped by an exhaust shop and the guy was nice enough to make a couple of cuts with the mitre box for me free I cleaned up the edges with a file at home.

If you go this route, make a cardboard template so you can be sure to get the fit right before you cut anything.

Good luck.

here's mine . i pulled a VAFM off a V6 camry ('90 i think) and it all seems to work well. sounds ok and i'm hoping to see a bit better MPG (averaging 20-21 with a very light foot on the highway). we'll see...

oh, i used the spectre couplers (what a ripoff, $8 for a piece of low quality silicone). hose fittings, 3" thin wall PVC, and 45 degree elbow from lowes. one good thing about those couplers is that they stretch some when put in hot water. i had all sorts of trouble with the diameter of the intake manifold (2 3/4ish) and the VAFM (3 1/8") but i ended up being able to use a 2 1/2"-to-three coupler on the manifold side to join pipe and IM and another 3"-to-3" coupler to join VAFM-to-pipe on the other end. k&n is mounted via adapter from isuzu amigo and customized accordingly.

i'm thinking maybe i should have mounted those two unmetered / return hoses on the same breather and not on the intake tube. i'll probably foul up my intake manifold and injectors - too late now (oops!). i'll keep an eye on it, if it gets bad i can always plug the holes in the pipe and put them on a breather.

Nice!! Just make sure to keep an eye on the pipe - specially during summer. Leak between the joints is your big enemy. Check your timing also to make sure you're in top shape.

just got this done a few minutes ago. works great except for the loud hissing sound that is wayyy too noticeable in the cabin. pretty sure its because the hose is one big spiral which would leave a small spot up by the engine where the air can still get in unfiltered. any other thoughts on where it might be coming from? has anyone else had this issue?

P.S. i'll probably switch over to an aluminum spectre intake later on. i just wanted to try it out for a while

Don't run that intake if it leaks. Your engine will run lean i.e HOT.. Make sure its airtight.

Just go get steel exhaust tube, no need for a fancy aluminum tube..

And get some wire loom on those exposed wires

sweet. thanks for the reply. im just going to do it easy and get the aluminum spectre intake at autozone. none of the hardware places in town sell 3" hose. and this or the aluminum intake from spectre are the only options i have.

i'd rather pass on fabbing my own metal intake too.

THe motor is loud enough to drown out the sound of the hissing while accelerating?

So none of the exhaust shops in your town sell 3" dia pipe??
