Is there any advantage of using the muffler pipe (metal) as opposed to using some kind of rubber tubing? Would the metal heat up more than the rubber?

the exhaust tubing does get extremely hot so I would think a plastic tube would be a better idea

Heres mine, tig welded stainless tubing, i think im gonna redo it. my tig has gotten a lot better now, and I think I over did it on the angles. I have some aluminum 3" tubing at work. I might try that. Name: Picture003.jpg

Decided to do this mod and the brake pads as well today. Mainly because when I changed the throttle body yesterday, the intake crumbled to pieces. Was a little bit confused at first by peoples pictures and the lay out of stuff. All is just due to mine being right hand drive though. As it turns out, it's probably a bit easier as I didn't have to worry about clearing the brake master.

I just took a piece of 2.5" tube and bent it. Then flared the ends to 2.75" (70mm) so I didn't need to bother with adapters. Welded a couple of stainless threaded bits that have barb fittings screwed in. A bit of over kill perhaps, but the barbs will unscrew if I need them out for whatever reason.

Anyway, it tidied things up. Breathes a little better, tad more response. Throaty intake sound. Idle up for ps sits up and takes notice far quicker. More serviceable in the future I suppose.

[edit] I just noticed that cable tying that hose off to the airbox clip may not be a good idea

At first it just had the 1 bend going straight to the maf but I was having trouble getting to the dipstick so i cut it and threw on another bend. Not I'm working with fiberglass to make an airbox. i just made a mold of the bottom below the filter and on a piece of wood I made just about 4 square feet of fiberglass and I'm cutting that up and putting it all together piece by piece. This is what i have so far Name: 2011-12-16171755.jpg

When its all done im going to coat it in heat resistant paint and make a plexiglass lid. I know this wont do THAT MUCH performance wise but its more just as a fun project, It wouldn't hurt.

IRS mod

Got it done yesterday evening. happy with it for the most part, i see a few improvemnts to be made but for only spending around $15 and some extra hose and pipe I had laying around, not bad.

can some one please tell me if this isr mod will give the same results as this k&n intake kit does minus the cone k&n filter because i have this k&n intake on my 3.0 already just wondering if i would notice any differance with the 3 inch spectre kit from autozone plus my k&n cone filter ? or should i just leave it the way the k&n kit came, as you can notice this kit came with the bent plastic tube already it was kinda pricey thou....

I would say that the extra length of tube from the ISR mod would be better in that the K&N goes into the stock tube as well (not smooth/easy.free flowing). At least that is how that kit came when I picked up my 90 4Runner.

Now if I am wrong I am sure that someone will let me know for sure. I was also thinking of keeping the K&N filter and replacing the tube from the VAFM to the intake. This would end up being the exact same as everyone else's ISR.

Look at the S&B kit Scrussanation installed. Same price as K&N and much better setup IMO: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...-setup-272137/

Wish I would saw this set up before buying my k&n kit , its also about 30-40 dollars cheaper !! Looks like does a good job of keeping the hot air out ? Some data from them would be nice ?
