I think for your rig it should be 1.11 but with worn tires it could be as low as 1.07. So you could run the numbers and see.
Also, when you put bigger tires on it makes it harder for the engine to pull the rig, decreasing mileage. But, you aslo go further with each turn of the tire. Since mileage decreases with bigger tires exponentially and going further increases directly, you could increase mileage as you go bigger until the decrease is larger than the increase and off sets it. So as long as you don't go too big you get better mileage.

how do you account for gear changes. i went from 4.10 to 5.29. tires went from 28.28" to 35".

You would take 4.10 and divide by 5.29 (0.78) multiply that by your miles then multiply that answer by the number you got from your tires (1.24 in your case). Its a little off because of the exponential change off the radius, but I think its about as good as you'll get.

^ Wait, I take some of that back. It's not off, it's as accurate as you'll get.

95 3.0 truck with 33" tires, 1.5 lift. K&N, free flowing exhaust. Manual transmission. I get 10 city and 15 highway. Is this normal? I feel like i should be getting a little bit better than that. What do yall think? And my speedometer/odometer is dead on.

on a high mileage motor with 33's that sounds about right. also, if you don't have gears done that will make a difference, but I don't see how your speedo would read right if you didn't.

well Im the third owner, got it from my grandma when it had 31s and she got it from someone who used it as a hunting truck and had 33s. Well i think the first owner either regeared it or changed the speedo gear, because 33s and it matches with 2 different gps'. So i figure its right on. Would you recommend lower gears?

well I would figure out what you have now and go from there. you can find out what gears you have by marking the driveshaft, then jack up one tire and rotate it two complete turns in neutral and count how many revolutions the driveshaft makes. that number will be your gear ratio.

95 3.0 I got 17.5 mpg's on my first tank with this truck. Mix of highway and city. To be honest I was pleasantly surprised after reading through this thread and others.

31's, 165k 38 psi in the tires.

93 Pickup xtra cab, 22re, 33x12.5 BFG's, 4.56's and most importantly a Check Engine Light.
13.5 MPG. Hahah
It's normally around 19 MPG.

I'll respond when I get it fixed and with 4.88's now.

Best way to improve gas mileage, visually clear all intersections by slowly rolling through them. The further you slow down, the more fuel you have to use to get back up to speed. Be sure to explain your reasoning to the officer who pulls you over. The money you save at the pump outweighs the tickets and increased insurance premiums.

Well I suppose it all depends on where you live and how often you get caught. Financially, it would be worth it for me, but I would not do it at busy intersections or traffic lights.

Stock 1998 extended cab taco, 4x4, 5 speed

Probably like 17mpg running 70 with air. Best, probably around 20 mpg doing 60-65 no air. In Texas, if you got the air, you run it, and mpg is not a factor!

Im finding it really hard top believe the posts claiming 19 mpg from a motor that makes 15 mpg from the factory new. Let alone with 200k miles and 33 inch tires.

I get 14 mpg on a motor with sub 100k miles and 31's. and thats mostly highway
