possible 4x4 problem?

hey guys, last week had a significant snowfall and i was trying to back out of my driveway in 2wd and when the rear wheels started spinning i decided to put it into 4x4. I fiddled around with 4H and 4L trying to get out and when I opened my door to check the tires I noticed only the rear wheels were spinning.

I just checked now when my 4x4 is engaged my front axle doesn't spin so does that mean my 4x4 works for sure? I know my 4x4 was working before so this must happen every now and then. Also my 4x4 dash light hasn't been working but I can hear the relay click when I go into 4x4 so would it just be a burnt out bulb?

Its a 1990 4runner V6 manual (ADD 4x4)

Sounds to me like you may be having a vacuum issue with the ADD system .. more likely on this I have the same problem... for now when I want 4x4 I directly connect the vacuum input that goes to the can under the front passenger wheel well directly to the hose that goes to the 4x4 side (taken off the 4x4 vacuum sol) just disconnect the check valve and reconnect that to the hose (if that makes any sense)

or you could do this https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...runner-225067/

There are quite a few threads on the ADD systems

ok so if u are hearing the clicking but not getting the 4wd it could be the sensor on the front of the front diff or vacuum issue, to see if it is a vacuum or not first start the car and put it in 4wd, go to front diff and u will have 2 vacuum lines on it remove the one that is on the 4wd side and see if u have vacuum with finger, if u do then i would check the switch that is there, remove it and see if u have conunity threw the switch, and with that switch out see if when in 4wd if the acuator arm is moving over to slip the sleeve over the shafts, here is a pic of what u are looking at and what side is the 4wd and the 2wd side. after pic is a location for the repair maunal for the 4wd systems on these rigs.

Thanks for the help guys. I decided I'm not going to sink money in to this complicated ADD crap and I'm just going to convert to reliable manual hubs. I'll let you know how it goes.

Question 4WD Indicator Light

My 4wd indicator light hasn't worked since I got the truck. I just got done messing around with it and nothing worked. The truck will engage 4x4 the indicator light is the only thing that doesn't work. I jacked up the truck and made sure the front wheels were locked together. (both wheels spin) I also removed the plugs and cleaned them and put them back. All vacuum lines are connected and working properly. Cluster is working properly and bulb is still good.
About a week ago I was pulling a buddy out of some mud and my truck was doing a lot of shaking. Next thing I know My light comes on! Only to turn off minutes later and never return.

(heres a video of that day you can here me getting excited about the 4WD light coming on. lol) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrxIsoFZ4mA

The truck is a 1995 4Runner sr5 5sp manual 22re

I know it's not a big deal but it's just one of those things... ya know!

Any ideas?

much appreciated.

Wire connections have all been checked and in working order...where would I be looking for the ground?

what i was thinking was on the dash it self at the bulb, if u look just under the pic i posted of the actuator there is a link for a manual for the add system.
