So this has happened both times I've gone mudding now.. the first time I ran through a huge watery puddle, like it splashed the top of my truck, when I got out I couldn't rev past 1800rpm.. its defiantly something electrical, it doesn't matter if I floor it or what, it will rev very hard up to 1800 then cut out, as soon as it falls below 1800 it will rev back up to 1800 again, with enough momentum to spin up to 2000 rpm, then fall back down again.. I ended up having to crawl along the side of the highway to the closest gas station where I got an under carriage car wash, which fixed the problem.. again last weekend went through a big mud puddle and I couldn't rev past 1800rpm.. this time though it fixed its self as I was leaving.. anyone have any idea why or how this is happening? And how I can fix it

I have a 93 pickup, ext cab, v6 Sr5, dual stick, 35" mud terrain on 4 inch body lift, k&n air filter, exhaust is cut under the bed with a cherry bomb..

I pulled the air filter (stock intake) and there wasn't one drop of water in there.. I don't have a skid plate either.. anything I'm leaving out?

 

The v6 has a rev limiter that cuts off the fuel from the injectors above 6500-7000 rpm. Possibly the water is interfering with the rpm signal to the ECU and causing it to limit much earlier.

The ECU gets its rpm info from the distributor, so you might look for places there where water could get into the connections and cause erroneous signals.

This is just speculation on my part.

 

My 22RE did this, and was misfiring right after going through water. Turned out I had a loose plug wire (actually the previous owner left the rubber out of a spark plug socket on the plug and tried to attach the wire over it) Fixed that and never had the issue again.

 

Check O2 sensor wires under truck.

 

just don't go through mud pits. problem solved

^Triple this. Mud really sucks. Well, at least the aftermath does. My money is on wet distributor or wet TPS. My 22re did exactly the same thing until i sealed the distributor with some rtv.

This is one of the many reason why I got a truck! Mud is awesome.. ya the more Ive read I defiantly wanna check my distributor.. I'm gonna go through my exhaust and make sure its not gettin in anywhere to the 02, my glass pack is angled up with the tip pointing down so I don't see a lot if water gettin in there just by splashing
